He should be easy to move then .....
- paulr

Didn't say that. He's probably a 6 or 7 on 1-10 scale. If it's a 9 or 10 then you have to start including a TT or eating a bad contract in return (for example, Campbell for Olesz for a savings of 3.5).

No one wants Bickell so why not ask for the moon? If you catch a team at their most vulnerable thay may be forced to accept it. If Chicago say no about including TT then the Bruins are no further behind.

No GM can possibly have thought the Hawks would even consider including TT in a Bickell trade. It obviously wasn't a serious counteroffer; just a particularly jerky way to say "not interested."

For 2 years that's respectable. Also seems to verify what I read that JO was prepared to take his current salary if signing with Hawks. Dude was going to give a legit hometown discount.

Best wishes to Johnny in Dallas.

Makes sense ...14-6 down the stretch last year. Team is stronger this year but 10.4 million tied up in Goal is a head scratcher

So basically Sharp and Johns for a 4th line grinder at 50% retained.

Yep. A repeat would have been right in the crosshairs (though lots has to go right for even the best teams to win a Cup).

Bickell was the linchpin of it all. I really don't like that player.

Bickell is fine, he's just overpaid. What was he gonna do, say no to all that money? Can't really fault him here.

I fault him for being lazy, inconsistent and too often disinterested. He cashed in on a 20 game 2013 playoff run. And the Hawks got taken. He has ALWAYS been terribly inconsistent. Bowman knew it and paid him too much anyway. Horrible deal, HORRIBLE deal for this franchise.

Not a jackass...he sees the Hawks dilemma and wants to be the GM that takes advantage of it. There is a deal out there for Bickell, Bowman is just waiting and calling to find the LEAST PAINFUL transaction. Bickell will be traded this off season because HE HAS TO!

What a coup by Nill. Wow. First Seguin and now this move.

Now if he can solve his >10mm goaltending issue, I'll be even more impressed.

So he trades paying 400k more to trade Oduya for Daley and gets Johns and Sharp for Garbutt....Stars fans must be happy.

Trade almost becomes JO, Sharp, and Johns for Daley and Garbutt at 50%. Yikes

Oh well, best of luck Johnny, thanks for your service to the Hawks.

If true about Hawks having to take back salary in a bickell trade, then get a #5 dman with a $2 mil cap hit. I feel the Hawks could overcome the loss of #65, and it would clear 6 mil in cap that would add a lot of depth. Take that with a grain of salt since I am a HUGE Shaw fan and would hate to see him go.

Hawks got taken. Just the price of winning the Cup. Other deals were probably worse. In the end...as long as 81, 88, 19, 2, 4 and 7 are on the ice this team will always be in the mix. NO ONE can boast a core as brilliant. NO ONE.

He will be fine. He was a good player in New Jersey. The 'cover for him' meme is old and tired. Oduya made countless brilliant plays in Chicago. Too much ice to cover for one guy to always be propping up the other guy. Try as you might....Oduya played a huge role in that pairing and his chemistry with hammer (and Hammer's with him) will NOT be easy to replace.
