I've been hoping Stan would sign Stanton ever since the Canucks didn't qualify him. I think he'd make a better depth defenseman than Rundblad. At one point the organization thought somewhat highly of him. - DarthKane
At the moment, Rundvlad isn't a depth D-man. He is the number 6. |

Yes but was there another Oduya replacement(price wise) out there for a potential top 4 role that could have been had? Also the addition of the serviceable Garbutt at half his cap hit was another plus for me. I really like Daley's speed, PP ability, and puck moving skills, and i hope Q teaches him to learn our defensive system so he holds his own.
Johns may be a very solid top 4 defensman one day, but for now they like TVR(who doesn't?) and Rundblad more, and dont count out Pokka playing a large role as a rising defensive prospect. Still other cheap options there without Johns. - SimpleJack
I agree with that as well, but if the suggested first offer from Dallas at the draft were real...
...the Hawks get picks and can keep Oduya. So there's that...
...but whatever, it's done and I am looking forward to seeing how Daley and Garbutt fit.
One thing is certain...games against Dallas will be interesting going forward. |

It will. Not including any Rockford prospects there are 6 defenseman on the roster. The question is, will the next d-man signed/acquired be ahead of Rundblad or not? |

Yeah but there are worse 6th defenseman out there with far less potential to get better, and we just won the Cup with Timonen as our 6th defenseman....
As long as Daley performs well and TVR continues to impress then im fine with Rundblad getting a chance. Hope we do add a solid vet to platoon with him though just incase he poops the bed completely. |

I didn't realize that he was available. Does anyone think he's worth going after? He can't be any worse than Rundblad...can he? |

Stanton is, and makes some sense to me as a stable, somewhat physical 6/7 |

Am I in trouble?
Actually just returned from picking up my daughter who just arrived home after a student exchange trip to Germany. I'm jealous of her. |

Preach!
Exactly what i was saying. Retool with ready and effective NHL talent(some of which may wind up with more upside than the most coveted talents we said goodbye to like Saad/Sharp), rather than rebuild with the likes of McNeill, Danault, Ross, Hartman, and Baun competing for 2-3 starting roles. - SimpleJack
Garbutt, Morin and Tropp are only "NHL ready" in the sense that they are too old to be considered prospects. On a Cup winning team these guys have no place taking up a roster spot. Dano, Anisimov, and Daley I will give the benefit of the doubt to, though only due to the constraints of the cap.
Plus, you lose the 1-2 year cost control of ELC contracts so what happens when you've traded away all your best prospects and those 2nd tier guys come up for renewal? |

I wouldn't put Garbutt in that group he's decent. |

What if we threw Versteeg and Morin to a team like New Jersey then toss that money at a 5/6 defenseman? |

I think that room signs Kruger, which is a higher priority. |

Morin is not part of any cap room issue. Any player can be buried in Rockford, and up to about $950k of their salary comes off the cap. So bury Morin of Garbutt or anyone else unde $950k in Rockford, and they're off the cap. Bury Bickell in Rockfork, and only $950 comes off his cap hit, $3m+ stays on the cap. |
