For 2 years that's respectable. Also seems to verify what I read that JO was prepared to take his current salary if signing with Hawks. Dude was going to give a legit hometown discount.
Best wishes to Johnny in Dallas. - kwolf68

Why hasn't Shaw been included yet? Sure he is a glue guy, but bangers are a dime a dozen. Remember, it is the playoffs that really count. - powerenforcer
And in the playoffs, Shaw had 5 goals and 7 assists; one more point than Brandon Saad. Obviously, points don't tell the whole story about Saad's value, but they don't tell the whole story about Shaw's value either. The Hawks don't win this time without Shaw. The only reason to consider trading him now is that they may not be able to pay him what he's worth next year.

I still think Dallas needs one more experienced defender, but damn they've done great this off-season. They are adding Cup champions to an already formidable team, especially on offense. This is what Montreal, Pittsburgh and Washington should have been doing. |

No
Getting rid of Sharp's contract
Getting money back from the cap
Getting an equally worthy defensive replacement for Oduya

Not a jackass...he sees the Hawks dilemma and wants to be the GM that takes advantage of it. There is a deal out there for Bickell, Bowman is just waiting and calling to find the LEAST PAINFUL transaction. Bickell will be traded this off season because HE HAS TO! - MexicoHawk
Happens every single day in business. When the seller has to sell, its a buyer's market. And why would a buyer volunteer making a very risky, expensive purchase without a carrot thrown in to help him get over the hump? |

WHOA WHOA... hearing $3.75M AAV for JO
what would he have take to stay in CHI?? - Trammelt
Don't know. Very surprising to me. SB must have low-balled him.

2-year deal worth $3.75 million per season for Johnny Oduya & the Stars. Includes partial no-trade. Another strong off-season for Jim Nill. |

He will be fine. He was a good player in New Jersey. The 'cover for him' meme is old and tired. Oduya made countless brilliant plays in Chicago. Too much ice to cover for one guy to always be propping up the other guy. Try as you might....Oduya played a huge role in that pairing and his chemistry with hammer (and Hammer's with him) will NOT be easy to replace. - kwolf68
I won't disagree but it's worth noting how terrible JO was the majority of last season. He really came around after the injury and in the playoffs, but I wouldn't be shocked if he struggles again. |

And he played VERY well in New Jersey. I know the gig...it's now time to diminish what Oduya was to the Blackhawks.

Can't view this in a vacuum. Just because Nill took advantage of SB not being able to move some guys, doesn't make it a coup for Nill.
SB had to move salary. He did. SB had to cover his ass in possibly losing his 4D. He did. SB needed to sweeten the deal to move salary. He did. SB need to save further money coming back in a 4th liner. He did.
It make look tilted in the favor of DAL, but SB did OK for himself IMO. |
|
|
|
TT and Bickell for a first a conditional and a third and no salary coming back is more than reasonable IMO.
Poor Stan. That guy is going to need a drink after he gets compliant. |

"And that is 30 minutes both GMs will never get back. I hate stupid trade offers and asking for TT as a "sweetener" is a stupid trade offer. Hawks will keep Bickell before they move TT. I am glad you respect Boston's position (assuming that's the case), but I don't. I think it's ridiculous and a waste of time."
But in that scenario, it is Bowman that wastes the time approaching a team, not the other way around. And it isn't necessarily a "waste" for him as he can take that to another team and say he has an offer for Bickell from another team, to try to get them to sweeten their offer. |

Look at game 6 where he hustled back to break up the Kucherov breakaway. JO was a trooper here and helped form a formidable top 4. Now Daley will fill that role this upcoming year or two |

Almost a must. Hawks CAN NOT carry Rundblad as a full time player. With the wear and tear on the top "3", it is imperative the Hawks have credible bodies on the third pair. A repeat DOES NOT happen unless Hawks can find those bodies. And Rundblad isn't it. I don't care what kind of spin "well they must see something they like" we get. Another D man has to be obtained. Just think if one of the big 3 go down? It will be clownshoes hockey. |

I'm not diminishing anyone. Just stating facts. BTW, he might have been great in NJ but it is well documented that he was not very good for WPG. I don't think going to a team/system that is not very good defensively (and bad goaltending) will benefit him. |

I wouldn't mind if he signed 2 of Schlemko, Volchenkov (both play responsible d styles) and/or Erhroff. TVR can rotate in and out of the top 6. Rundblad can get the occasional game in against weaker teams like Carolia |

I love JO and hope he thrives in Dallas, but I won't be surprised if he's not much more than adequate. Without Hammer, I very much doubt that Johnny will be the big upgrade over Daley the Stars seem to expect.

Thank you for the Oduya support. I hope Daley fits in. I think he'll be a better offensive player than Johnny and if he picks up his defensive game only marginally we'll have a very nice hockey player there. Trevor Daley is a good player with good character. I like him. But i hated losing JO. Imagine JO AND Daley with the Big 3? WOW...
now wonder teams won't play ball. They see that possibility and it's maybe game over. |

Hard to diminish what Johnny did. When he came back after being hurt this year, he was an animal. The team instantly improved. |

Me and you both...you can't expect much help from Jordie Benn, or the others.
They onmly have one right hander the rookie Klingberg.
I thought they would continue to play him with Goligoski.
Oduya is in my humble opinion a left sider only, so yeah, you have to wonder about not only the pairings but the adjustment.
he signed for 3.75 per season, more than his last deal and more than Trevor Daley.
So leaving all our emotions behind us, Daley is/was a Cap-cutting measure, and probably the best highest level defender available in trades.
You are hard pressed to find teams willing to let go of decent defenders, and even then you see another NHL ready one coming back.
And trying to find a decent all around defender with a nice contract well...just like, Tigger, Trevore was...the only one. |
