Wow. Ducks tossing money around. - Hank3Henshaw
I guess letting Beleskey and Beauchemin walk freed up enough salary that they can throw a bunch of money into the Pacific Ocean and expect a Stanley Cup to wash ashore. Suckers. |

Kesler's new deal is huge. Six years, $41.25 million. ($6.875M AAV).
Makes Anisimov look like a bargain.
Kesler's last three years: -5, -15, -5; 105 points in 171 games.
Kesler turns 31 next month. - KingB
First off this is not a 1:1 comparison. Kesler is a sure 2C, AA? Not so sure. Maybe he will be with the 'Hawks. Maybe not. If not? Then '16-'17 they're paying $4.55M for a 3C. A little "oops".
Second, Kesler's last three years were with a team full of douchebags (2yrs) and a team wanting to hit everything in site (1yr). Put him on the 'Hawks the last three years, with the leadership in that dressing room, and all of a sudden you have a much better 2C. No douche-baggery, no running around hitting every player in site (remember this? "we'll wear them down"). |

And by the way, where would that have fit in our current cap hell if we had pulled the trigger on him last summer...and TT would be a Canuck!
Oh, and the ring we have and he doesnt. - Cmonalready
Yep - AND the Hawks were the oldest team in the playoffs and 4th or 5th oldest in the NHL last year.
Bowman knows that the Hawks have to get younger. Removing Sharp, Oduya, Richards, Vermette, Rosy and another piece or two will help. |

You know I am getting tired of the one after another posts about how they Hawks had to pay Dallas with Stephan Johns.
Did you ever think that Johns may just be a big physical guy who loves to attack, but has still not developed a strong defensive side? Well, that is basically it.
Now if you want to say Bowman traded Johns to ensure landing Trevor Daley, as a cost cut, I have no problems with that assessment.
They will find a way out of Bickell without giving away a precious minor leaguer.
And while I am at it, I am really tired of the "Oh, NO!, Not Danault" posts, about his guaranteed future as an NHLer.
The kid scored THIRTEEN GOALS in the AHL last year, and SIX the year before.
You all have to loosen up on the reigns...
You don't need to buy in completely to my evaluations but don't get too hung up that the folks in charge actually have better evaluations and know what they are doing when trading kids away... - wiz1901
Wiz, I usually agree with you but I really thing Johns is going to turn in to a top NHL defenseman if he avoids injury. He's not just physical but is an excellent puck mover. My fear is that SB has now lock himself into a top 4 defense and a third sucky group. Are we again going to wear out the top four?

No thanks to Rozi. His ankle was decimated. No way he's 100% coming back, and was super slow already. Look how a foot injury hurt Oduya for the first 1/2 of the season. - JRoenick97
My thought process is you let TVR and Rundblah play the first half let Rozy recover and get in shape and ready for next year's playoffs, I hope TVR can stay healthy |

That's your opinion. What if Kesler polluted the clubhouse, which is more likely than Kesler being reformed. Plus - If Kesler can't produce positive +/1 with the Ducks why would he with the Hawks? |

Everyone keep in mind...
Ryan Kesler scored 47 pts last year. Everyone has labeled him a "perfect fit"in ANA
Anisimov will be a massive bargain even scratching 50 pts playing with Kane - FourFeathers773
Kesler will be really good in 2022 as that contract comes to an end. |

Anisimov is 2.75 years younger than Kesler, who is also injury prone. Good luck with that contract in another year or two! |

If SB projected Johns to be a top NHL defenseman I'm sure he wouldn't have traded him. All $1.30 and a prospect ensures is I can get a medium coffee at Tim Hortons. |

Soderberg contract 4.75aav
94pts in 161 games 29years old +4+10
So when you take a Keslers deal, and look at Soderbergs. Anisimov is a really good deal |

I'll take a top-4 d-man over "picks and prospects" every single day of the week. No brainer. - TommyHawk
Actually that isn't a no brainer. If the Hawks were not picking up any significant salary, then Oduya and most likely Kruger is resigned by now with Sharp's $5.9M off the books. Probably no talk of Shaw getting traded. No Garbutt on the team. Johns is the #6 dman.
As I said earlier, Bowman (frank)ed this one up royally. |

Stat wise it might be ok but when it matters most I have a feeling he will disappear.... just saying. I don't have a ton of experience watching him but just what I have noticed. I think Wiz said something similar a while back too. |

LMAO. Other than 1 year, Kesler has played 77 or more games every year since 2006. Kesler is one of the 3 or 4 best two-way center in the NHL. Comparing Anisimov to him is laughable. |
