Fair enough but history usually shows that one rookie/prospect at least starts the year with the big club, whether the reason being their own performance or injuries... On the flip side, one could always says "None" in the "Other" field...

I can't agree more. Bergevin knows that this team needs more scoring, but what's the urgency? It's not like they are going to miss the playoffs. They might give a youngster a try to start the year or they might make a trade if the right one comes along. But there wasn't much in the free agency basket, so give the guy a break. I think they will make a trade, probably before the season starts because they have too many defencemen. Or maybe they wait, they have all season to get it right.

The two I'm interested in as a neutral fan is the Galchenyuk questions.

This. Hope some contract talks break down in places and pick-up a rental player at the deadline with the 3M of cap space left. If said player works out, then you can sign him next season and do it with money coming off the books from Plekanec, Gilbert, Kassian... If not, then at least he isn't stuck with a Clarkson like contract for years. And for the rest of the season, this team is good enough to be 2-3(in the division) and continue to develop their own guys... give the kids as much NHL ice as they can handle without breaking them.

I think the main point is that Bergevin recognizes who his core is, but until the complementary pieces are ready or available, he isn't going to screw up his whole cap because we need more scoring now so keep the affordable complementary pieces that are in place now (Plekanec, Eller, Desharnais, Markov, Gilbert)

This is brilliant and seems exactly right. He acquired guys at the last deadline and kept them all. I'm sure if Vanek wasn't one bad bet away from having a bookie break his kneecaps he might have been brought back too. Dodged that bullet.

Not nearly good enough to win.,,... not bad enough to get a good draft pick...
Yawn.... oh well. mediocrity is good for the owners, but sucks for the fans...
