They were losing 5-0

I think you were talking baseball and I was talking softball.

And I think Carol is right, there should have been more live tv coverage of the pan am games. Is that all CBC's fault, or did they also have a partner like tsn?

Sportsnet was their partner. They were only scheduled to show soccer games but ended up adding more events. I think CBC also increased its coverage in the second week.

This article explains some of the broadcast logistics.

I guess I understand in theory why they'd save big events for tape delay in prime time on the West Coast, but it was annoying to read about a result like Andre DeGrasse's sprint wins on Twitter hours before we were able to watch the races.

Not certain if Sven is ready to make the move into a top 6 forward at the NHL level. He has some great offensive potential, but he is not responsible or mature enough to play the big minutes expected of a top 6 forward. I would much rather see Higging, Vrbata, Burrows and Daniel Sedin as our wingers for the top 2 lines. I think a third line role with Hansen and Horvat might be a good starting point for Baertschi.

With the exception of 2 players, the rest are 3rd line players, whether they slot in 2nd or 3rd line duties doesn't matter because that's what the Canucks have going forward.

I didn't turn on the games once nor do I know anyone that was following them other than a few on Twitter . I think CBC planned right and did not waster their money.

Yeah. I look back to his very short stint here last year , he had moments of brilliance, but stretches of invisible. I think he will start 3 Rd line and either perform or get sent down. Be careful of what you offer him. 1 mil one year sounds good

I don't like the idea of criticizing the CBC, they often get more than they deserve, especially when it comes to sports and whether they should be in competition with tsn and sportsnet.

anyway, this- "A fundamental for CBC — which committed to airing "The National" newscast weeknights at 10 p.m. ET sharp..." I don't get it. They have their 24hr news network, they can air the National at 10pm on there....

I have the same feeling about sportsnet. They have 3 channels, why can't they have their 10 pm pst connected on at 10pm on channel 224 when a baseball game goes long on 223 instead of having the same jays in 30 air one after another for the whole night.

That whole tape delayed stuff in the internet world doesn't seem to work very well. It is hard to avoid hearing the outcome of daytime events before they are aired later in the evening.

I can't remember if it was baseball or basketball, but I remember someone mentioned Canada was playing, and I looked for it on tv...

I'm not working right now, and had found myself watching Wimbledon earlier in the summer and few other events. who knows what the ratings for these events would have been like if they were aired live.

I was thinking of Sportsnet airing a Jays nooner and what the ratings are for that. Prolly a demographic of older viewers too, as baseball usually is, but they still air the games so they must do okay.

I agree with Makita.
Higgins should not be in the top 6. Mentor on the 3rd or 4th.

I feel your pain, I get totally frustrated with, how many, 10-12 different sports channels 5 TSN, that show the same program or blackout the game that's across the country.

Although you can tune out....I've been doing this for years...no face book, no twitter, listen to satellite radio, PVR everything.

The closest comparable to Beartschi would be Condra, at least in terms of articles posted about a fringe NHLer.

I try the pvr route most often. usually I watch a few shows in the evening, pvr'd or downloaded to pc and watch on the big screen. I try to pvr connected at 10pm and notice there is a ball game that ends at 10pm and have to record 2 hours of connected hoping to get a full hour of it... that the game didn't go past 11pm - which has happened a couple times in recent memory.

Then again, I miss the Pacific Connected they had a couple years ago so maybe all my whining is about dealing with a lesser product that they can't even deliver on time.

I agree but expect Higgins to start on the 2nd, Sven on the third and Sven will have to earn the promotion to the second line.

Sven should be on the second line, but am not against him having to earn the promotion. From what little we know of Sven, demands, being moved by the Flames, it might be better for him to actually let his play dictate where he belongs.

Don't disagree with most of what you said, however, there has to be someone other than Higgins to fill that spot. Hoping someone will surprise from camp.

Fingers crossed.

I was basing Higgins starting on the 2nd line from what happened last season. Maybe WD and JB will have a different approach this year- be more open to youth pushing for a spot. and if it is close, maybe the youth will get the spot if the vet can be moved out..
