If we gave up a low 2nd for a high 3rd...I'm not losing sleep over it. This trade tells me Horvat is 2C and Sutter is better suited for bottom 6 than Bonnino. I don't care about Clendenning as he was waiver eligible. Anyone know Sutters contract status?

I just feel like with the centers being a wash, though taking on salary and throwing in an older prospect, the Canucks should've been able to get the 3rd or a little less without giving up a 2nd round pick

And will want a nice new contract. Bonino made 1.9M, which is less than both the 4th line wingers Benning brought in.

You feel like Benning gave more than he had to in a trade eh? I'm stunned. Stunned!

I can't wait to see the Terrible Extension Benning gives Suter this off-season.

4 years $6.5 million per year sounds about right.

Getting younger is definitely in the cards by all indications. Probably won't see it in October, but should by February.
- LeftCoaster

Kassian and Lack want to know what I type of cards are you using? Certainly not birthday cards

How so?
- Whiskey-Tango

More so for Subban. Opens a spot on d, but he is waiver exempt so he can freely go up and down, same as Cassels. But the number of centres ahead of Cassels and McCann has not changed.

I don't see Vey being the answer as 4lc... really, if they could have moved any centre, it should have been Vey- no clear fit for him.

Sutter is a UFA after the season. How do you feel now?

Clendenning is an RFA. Bonino has 2 years and half the price before he's a UFA.

- Scooby_Doo

If he is a UFA that is strange...perhaps it means he is gone at the deadline for a couple pics? Confusing trade. Although, we aren't losing much

What can I say our Stupid GM hates 2nd round picks and Loves 3rd round picks.

Champions are built in the 3rd round.

That's a list of very mediocre NHL players, one has yet to make the NHL...hardly a big loss.

Still - I have no idea what they're trying to do???

- LeftCoaster

that's exactly it.

It's not as though any of those guys ARE or have been exceptional. Lack COULD be at some point, but the problem is more that none of these resources have been maximized, and there doesn't appear to be any plan at all.

Agreed,

I think what people fail to realise is that we brought in Clendening for insurance purposes, rather than for the future of our team. Bonino was an incredibly soft player, which I dont think fit the bill that Benning was looking for. If we get BO in at 2C and Sutter at 3C and ship him off as a rental come playoff time, I have no problem with the trade. I very much dislike the draft picks in the trade more than the players. Benning keeps talking about getting younger and keeping draft picks but he can't hold on to a 2nd to save his life.. I also really hope we dont make the playoffs at this point, for the future of our club.. Everyone needs to calm down about this trade though, is it really as significant as what people are making it... not really

lol...I think we'll be ok. With the amount of space Benning will be clearing squeezing Sutter in will not be a problem.

Kassian wasn't traded for youth reasons, he was gotten rid of to get his idiot ass outta town....that trade had nothing to do with getting younger.

Lack out Markstrom in is getting younger, Miller is simply there because having him mentor Markstrom is WAY better than having Lack do it!!

Prust is young at heart.
Bonino had the hair of a 45 year old
Clendening skated like a 35 year old
That 3rd round pick is more of a challenge to draft with than a third

I'm willing to bet that it has already been discussed by Sutters agent and Benning.

Oh I think they definitely have a plan, I just have no idea how Benning and Linden think in terms their LRP.

Is it?

If you wanted Markstrom to be the guy, then why not let him battle Lack for the starting job? He'll learn more that way than watching Ryan Miller not give a poop for 60 games this year.

I mean, if you want to get younger, get younger. Don't half-ass it.
