Well - I think they're both poopty at trading to be honest. But I do think Benning has a better long range vision than Gillis. Hard to say though. Gillis was dealing with a different set of circumstances than Benning presently is.
Apples and Oranges to me... - LeftCoaster
Alright. I still maintain that Benning is a decent scout but his trades, contracts and overall negotiating skills will be mocked by most of this fanbase and league once he's done here. |

He's a pending UFA, I suspect they move him at the deadline...this is not a long term move I'd think? - LeftCoaster
Agreed. I think they are clearing the deck for the season following this one. They've picked up 2 UFA's this summer and along with a number of contracts on they're last year there should be loads of room to maneuver with next summer. |

They have 4 million in cap space don't they? Sven isn't worth more than just over a million per year. - LeftCoaster
They have 2.1 mil in space and 21 players signed. Sven at 1 mil and JV at 900 k . There is your 23 man roster
3 Rd line

Do you think Gillis would have done worse, the same or better? - Nucker101
The disdain you show towards Benning is somewhat valid and yet these nostalgic after the fact Gillis references completely destroy any ground you have made.

You know it's bad when the guy who traded Despres for Lovejoy gets good value in a trade with you. - Nucker101

THE PLAN is solid. |

I just cannot comprehend what the plan here is. Unless he's banking on being able to pick up some big UFA's next season, but even then there's a good chance he'll get (frank)ed by the expansion draft. - BINGO!
And if his target all along was Lucic at something like 6 years at 6M+, I'll be laughing. |

Time will tell I guess, as I've said before, I'll wait a few years to see how things pan out for him and the players he's trading for. |

This move opens up the possibility of Sedins being traded.

They're definitely looking ahead IMO, but how they're planning it out I have no idea...no one really can and they're not going to spell it out for everyone. |

If they're going with youth like Horvat, Virtanen and McCann the following season, I'm all for getting Lucic on the team. He's only 27 and he makes everyone stand a bit taller plus he always puts up around 20 goals. |

So by that line of thinking it's fine if they lose anyone who's not Horvat/Virtanen/McCann/Boeser no matter what kind of value they get back? - Nucker101
Define value.
Have you inside knowledge pertaining to other deals on the table for Lack and Kassian?
The market sets the value, as witnessed by the return we received.
Christ, we had to throw in a pick simply to rid ourselves of Kassian.
Sometimes addition through subtraction represents a positive move forward.... |

The way Benning has been trading lately I'm not sure I'd like the return he'd get for trading the Sedins |

Love to be a fly on the wall so I could hear what they're thinking long term. The guys they're getting rid of are of little value IMO, the inclusion of these picks is pissing me off though? If you're building then why are you trading picks? |

This draft pick I can see them doing. It allows them now to throw an offer sheet at someone |

They've stated they don't want to leave even under a rebuild. However, they also said if the team doesn't want them then they'd look at waiving. |
