No one can comprehend the plan yet there are a few who are defending it to the death. We have two camps here; Benning Fluffers and Benning Whiners. Yet we all agree that creating a younger roster and hording draft picks should be the focus.
Is that happening? - bloatedmosquito
Isn't that essentially whats happening?
Agree with the moves or not, the team has gotten younger and roster spots are continuing to open up.
Apart from the third/fifth round picks and fourth-liners, I'll gladly take a more "established" commodity such as Sven over a Second any day of the week though i suppose the outcome of such deals remains to be seen. |

I would honestly say you're better off walking away from Sutter. Try to trade him later this year
He really isn't much of a player. Soft, doesn't check, hit or make himself noticed. Walk away from all pieces would be my advice. I think you'll get dissapointed with Sutter quickly. - walshyleafsfan

Buffalo will still be bad, but not nearly as bad. Again, these small things add up. Pit should have asked for a 3rd in exchange for a 4th as well or something because no biggie right?
Other GM's are taking notice of these things and will push for these little throw-ins in the future as well. - Nucker101

Clendening is not an NHL d-man.... fringe NHL player IMO.

in what (frank)in corporate world does a management team take a full page add out and spell out their business goals for everyone? I have to sign a confidentiality agreement and I'm sure they do too. Although they do seem to be pretty open with the media where Mike Gillis was the total opposite.
You'll simple get we plan to get bigger, younger and faster....nothing more. - LeftCoaster
Happens all the time in the sports world.
You say "Hey, we're going to do this right, so it's going to take a couple years." Or "We think we're better than we showed. We're going to try and shore up the drafting and improve our long-term game, but we think we can win with a couple of moves so we'll be retooling on the fly."
Rarely do you hear "We're not telling you what our plan is, but it involves shipping off a bunch of depth guys for lesser depth guys and some draft picks that have a less than 20% chance of seeing the NHL." |

It's pretty obvious he's moving out players that are A) considered a problem or want out...Kesler and Kassian B) what would be considered mediocre talented NHL players the Canucks have never been able to win with.
Yet he signs a guy like Sbisa? That I don't get. I get he likes "character" in guys like Dorsett, so do I.
Looks as though he's putting all his chips in on the youth he's got, or, the youth he's going to get? He'd better hope like hell this pans out for him in a couple of years or he'll be canned. |

Define value.
Have you inside knowledge pertaining to other deals on the table for Lack and Kassian?
The market sets the value, as witnessed by the return we received.
Christ, we had to throw in a pick simply to rid ourselves of Kassian.
Sometimes addition through subtraction represents a positive move forward.... - Whiskey-Tango
I agree the market sets the value but a savvy GM will be able to gauge the market and not put themselves in a position to be forced to take poor value for assets.
Kesler trade, Garrison trade, Lack trade, Kassian trade and Bonino all IMO were poor value but the excuse always is, Benning got as much as he was offered and that the market was poor. Personally I think Benning needs to be holding on to those assets if the deal is not fair value.
Someone compared it to the housing market and how the market dictates your houses price not what you perceive the value is, this is true but the people who usually do the best in the housing market are the ones who can afford and choose to wait until the market is giving fair value.

It's a bad sign that it's hard to even fathom "the plan" or make sense of some of his moves. Red flags that some keep brushing off, but the list keeps getting bigger and soon all of these "small" deals that look questionable will add up and be too difficult for most to keep ignoring. - Nucker101

He would have been sitting in the press box eating up cap space and could not be sent down. I think it just shows the Canucks like COrrado better , and now have a bit more cap room |

Like you said, we can judge this after a couple of seasons. Something big is up just don't have a clue what it is. Summer is no longer boring.

You're generalizing - they've openly said they're going to get younger and try to compete at the same time. As developing players like Horvat in a winning environment is important to them.
They've also said they need to get a different mix of players in the form of speed and size. Which every team says. All sports teams will give you a general idea of what they plan to do but they're not going to spell it out and line-item it. |

We're going to miss Bonino's offence. He was miscast as a second line centre, but he provided solid depth scoring on a very cap friendly contract. Sutter better hit everything in site and win every faceoff he takes. - CubanBuffet[/quote]
Well... That IS something Bonino was never going to do. |

It looks to me like JB's trying to get "heavier", for the 'ol the west is more Steve Austin (not the wrestler).
My only beef with this trade is getting a worse pick, and loosing arguably our best D prospect. |

here's a positive spin on the trade.
Canucks are planning on bringing on a lot of young wingers this year. Bringing in a strong defensive centre like Sutter will only help them in their transition into the NHL.
Plus Canucks have lacked that checking centre with size to help match up with centres like Kopitar, Thornton, Getzlaf etc Sutter should help there.
he's a right handed shot who has a faceoff % higher than 50%. Horvat and hank are both lefties. Having a mix of right handed and left handed faceoff guys is pretty valuable in this league IMO.

Speculating here, he's bringing in assets on expiring contracts to load up for this draft that will still allow them to be competitive while slowly intergrating the ELCs like McCann, Cassels, Horvat, JV etc. I still think he's not done and something else is in the works, or else this doesn't make sense. |

There's a difference between a mission statement, like "To win the Stanley Cup" and a business strategy. |
