He'll do better with our stacked lineup... - Nucker101
You're smarter than that. If he's playing with Staal he's facing top D pairings. He could face bottom pairings with decent 3rd line wingers. |

I'm not a Benning lover or hater....I just see things long term as oppose to instant gratification. Time will tell how he does, but I'm not gonna make that judgment for a few more years.
Until then, I'll call em as I see em... - LeftCoaster

Just wait for the Sutter contract.. - Nucker101
I expect an overpayment for sure , it is what Benning does best, but I still don't mind Sutter as our third for a couple of years. |

Also you keep bringing up the offer sheet thing but 2016 picks are for current RFA's and who's left unsigned? And with 2M in cap I don't think there's much room for one. - Nucker101
Benning said it is conditional 3rd, either our 3rd or NYI 3rd, we get whichever pick is lower. |

If I'm a NHL winger I'd rather play with Eric Staal against top pairings rather than playing with 3rd liners.
You said it yourself, the advanced stats show that the wingers who play with better centers, score more points. |

And will want a nice new contract. Bonino made 1.9M, which is less than both the 4th line wingers Benning brought in. - Nucker101
You want a cheap contract to get in the way of Horvat.

He'll be paid like a 2nd liner if Benning's history tells us anything. |

I don't for the life of me know what he saw in that kid? He (frank)ed that one up by A) requesting him in the deal & B) by signing him to a three year deal at way more than he's worth.
A one year qualifying offer was all he needed to do with him. - LeftCoaster
"Getting Bonino was an important piece ... (for) being able to replace his goal production for our team next year," Benning said. "Getting Luca, he gives us some physical play from the back end. He's strong. He plays like a heavy game and I think in our division his heaviness is going to come in handy for our group."
"We acquired players that we thought are going to have an impact on us winning next year," he said. "If it was going to be a rebuild then maybe we wouldn't have tried to fight so hard to get players that can come in and help our team win next year."

Yeah Staal only put up 76 points that year. Such garbage |

Last season:
Eddie Lack
41 Games Played. 2.45 GAA, .921 Save Percentage
Ryan Miller
45 Games Played. 2.53 GAA, .911 Save Percentage
hmmmm...
So you're logic is that it's better to keep the expensive old guy who put up worse numbers last season because he's better? - BINGO!
difference is the older guy wins games. Numbers dont matter wins do. I we lose a game 6 to 1 or 2 to 1 who gives a crap. Miller wins bottom line |

How is Bonino at 1.9 in the way of Horvat but Sutter at 3.3 and potentially 4-5 not in the way of Horvat?

That logic is stupid, you're better than that. If Bonino is that good then why are you trading him for a lesser player who makes more money? And why are you applauding a deal where the team paid extra assets to actually downgrade and spend more money?

I was never a Gillis supporter. I called the circle jerk gang out when they were gushing over Gillis and his 'out of the box' thinking.
Said the same thing when the gang started gushing over Benning. We have no idea what this rookie GM will be like. Let's see the evidence before we call this hire a success. - bloatedmosquito
Exactly, and lets see this ALL play out before calling this a failure. BUT, I've gotta say I'm a little concerned with JB interviews....is there not someone articulate, or someone that doesn't spew "Brandon Sutter, to me, is a foundational piece going forward." that could step in....certainly doesn't instill confidence in his overall plan. |

I can't wait to see the Terrible Extension Benning gives Suter this off-season.
4 years $6.5 million per year sounds about right.
- classic321
Why? What has Benning done to indicate that?
Please... every time we move a lesser player... people behave like we have a a useless GM. You don't like Vrbada's contract? You don't like Tanev's? You think he way over paid for them? You think Vrbada's contract is too lengthy?
Spare me the hyperbole.

one thing i don't get is your level of consternation at these moves. last summer (going forward) you were the strongest advocate of tanking. i'm not entirely sure of my memory, but you called yourself tank commander or captain of the tank.
now that they're making moves that you think that will make the team appreciably worse i.e. tanking, you're screaming and pulling your hair out.
help me understand. are you not happy b/c they are not tanking the way you want or are you like a few others here who want (and think it's possible) to tank while the team still competes for a playoff spot?!?!?
the team is not anywhere close to contending (unless you think contending for the playoffs counts as being a "contender"). if these moves are as bad as you and others think, will this not accomplish your main goal... tanking or at the very least improve the draft position? |

He's neither a winger nor a 1st liner. He's a 3 LC. His role is quite defined.
I don't question at all where Benning sees him slotting in on the team, I just don't like the trade as I feel we should have gotten a better pick out of the deal. |

Booner asked me the same. I want a tank but I don't want a bad GM running it. And I don't want the team to be filled with overpaid/bad contracts during the tank. |

Agreed,
I think what people fail to realise is that we brought in Clendening for insurance purposes, rather than for the future of our team. Bonino was an incredibly soft player, which I dont think fit the bill that Benning was looking for. If we get BO in at 2C and Sutter at 3C and ship him off as a rental come playoff time, I have no problem with the trade. I very much dislike the draft picks in the trade more than the players. Benning keeps talking about getting younger and keeping draft picks but he can't hold on to a 2nd to save his life.. I also really hope we dont make the playoffs at this point, for the future of our club.. Everyone needs to calm down about this trade though, is it really as significant as what people are making it... not really - Codes1087
Benning had 2 drafts now which only one of them he didnt have a 2nd round pick in... and that pick he dint have became Baertchi who is NHL ready and would be a reasonable pick in any 2nd round.
This stuff is hilarious.
