The more I look at our roster, the more I believe we are not going to be able to make room for a youngster to crack the line up. Injuries are the only way I see Grenier or virtanen getting the call. Where does shinkaruk or gaunce fit in for the next 3 years? I unfortunately see gaunce as a Archibald 2.0, AHL veteran for the majority of his career. Does McCan get a solid look this training camp? I really don't understand the direction benning is taking with the team. I have faith, just confused... |

Well, I don't normally buy into idle speculation, but I heard that he is a poor tipper. Like barely 15% poor. I can't substantiate it, but the fact that he hasn't answered a single one of my letters pleading for money leads me to believe that it's true. |

If you are going to be confused, could you at least find a little optimism within the confusion.
JV will get his 9 games. Maybe McCann too. If they don't stick, they will go back to junior.
Grenier I think is still waiver exempt. (We hashed this out in a blog last week iirc, I remember the hashing but not necessarily the conclusions)
Gaunce is waiver exempt too. Why so quick to write him off? He improved in Utica as the season wore on. Shinkaruk is also waiver exempt, and improved as the season went on in Utica too.
Jensen is likely done, don't know if he is still in the Canucks plans.
Injuries will likely play a factor in providing opportunity to the youngsters. That might be a positive in the team next season. Some of these older players in our lineup are likely to have some bumps and bruises throughout the season, I hope they get a chance to heal when that is the case and a prospect gets a game or two with the big club.
JB is trying to remain competitive - make the playoffs, and at the same time, he wants to acquire picks and prospects that will eventually make the transition to the big club= a changing of the guard. Henrik and Daniel are hoping for a strong playoff push before they retire. |

Was Grenier waiver exempt? I thought there was one guy who could still be sent down.
I can't see MCCann getting 9 games . I can see JV sticking just for his physicality which the team sorely lacks.
The one who could steal a spot is Cassels.
I wouldn't expect any of them to excel in the beginning, look how long it took Horvat to gain confidence. They could make the team but don't expect miracles. |

Guessing Cassels will start in the AHL, and be promoted to 4lc at the trade deadline. Might see more time if guys are injured.
Wondering about Wacey Hamilton and Alex Friesen, if they will get a look? They appear to be undersized but sound like heart and soul players. any chance in a 4th line, energy role- fore check?
And the underperforming Jensen. Don't think he got one call up last season.

The reason I think the Canucks will take a long look is because , exactly what you said. We are scarce down the middle. Hank Bo Nick and then who? Vey at 4lLC doesn't sound promising. Freisen and Hamburgler Lyon are not NHL ready. |

There was something about him signing for 9 games to an ahl contract but he still keeps his waiver exemption for so many games into the season before it kicks in... I hate this waiver eligible or waiver exempt terminology.
waiver eligible, waiver required? |

I think Cassels would have a similar approach and the team a similar treatment of the ice time and role/responsibility as Horvat received. Not sure about the offensive production, but Cassels is likely better in the circle than Vey.
Making Vey a winger. Which winger do you think they move? Hansen? Vrbata? Burrows?
JB still has work to do
