Benning would probably prefer to give Gallagher 7M over 7 years. - Nucker101
Based on the contracts to Sbisa an Dorsett right? (frank) are you ever coming down to Leaf fan logic.

lol...Gillis style!!!! - LordHumungous
EXACTLY!!!!~
This is exactly the kind of deal nuckers man Gillis was handing out... even longer...
Give Gillis props for his contracts then immediately turn around and criticize Benning for those kinds of deals in which he hasnt even come close to doing yet.
It's fascinating really.

1. When Tanking, does the quality of the GM really matter outside his drafting ability (Which you have professed numerous times to have liked)?
2. WTF does having a team of "overpaid/bad contracts" matter when attempting to tank??? They are all short-term and frankly, handcuff Benning from acquiring quality free-agents that would otherwise prevent the team from accomplishing the beloved tank in the first place...?
There is a severe lack of reason within your persistent and tedious narrative. - Whiskey-Tango
WT, you are 100% right.

Yes, we all remember you wanted the money saved by not signing miller spent on draft picks and rookie UFA's. More realistic arguments. We know undrafted players ready to step into the NHL are just lined up to sign with the Canuks and not the other 29 teams interested in them....
You keep suggesting how unreasonable my arguments are because I don't give into your very shallow logic. Have you ever considered that your logic is the problem?

Okay, I'll give you the Kassian deal since apparently he's a cokehead.
But Benning clearly targeted Luca (frank)ing Sbisa in the Kesler deal when he could have had a better asset. That's just horrible. That deal would look better if the third asset was at least a valuable asset and not player who's not viewed as a cap dump due to the new contract he got. - Nucker101
..and here we are again... Sbisa.
I've been in the same boat Nucker.... a player I despise is extended. At least try and not let that make you blind to everything else.
All I can say about Sbisa being targeted.... Benning was steadfast on getting a very physical player intoour D that could actually skate. Playing D must be secondary to how desperate Benning was for this.
To me the money only gets in the way of getting better. That is the least of my worries.

Jesus..read the entire post it's about more than just the contract. It's that he valued him as an asset in the Kesler trade, thus he sold Kesler for less than he should have. |

I can spin it too. I turned on Jim Benning when he signed a border line NHL player who had one of the worst seasons by all d-men league-wide, who held very little bargaining power to a 3 year 3.6M per contract. - Nucker101
Spin is right since you keep ignoring the money was very little over Sbisa''s qualifier.
Like I keep saying... sign him or trade him. The whining about how much is really irreverent.
Benning would only be good at contracts if he could sign someone for less than his qualifier.

That's kind of what I'm doing with all of your replies to like 15 posts now that Carol's posted a new blog. I've already said that I can write the Kassian deal off, my issues are still with his overpaying of Sbisa, Miller, Bartkowski, Dorsett.
And in the Kesler deal he clearly valued Sbisa as an asset, when originally some assumed Sbisa was just a cap dump that ANA requested(shows you how Sbisa is viewed). Then he turns around and gives him a horrible deal when he had no reason or pressure to do so. how is that not a major red flag? First he somehow targets Sbisa as an asset in the Kesler deal and then he grossly ovepays him.
'
And why is that it always seems like Benning has to pay more in terms of assets and money for role players or prospects than other teams? He gives up a third for Dorsett and pays him 2.6M per, meanwhile there's plenty of UFA's available that are just as good as Dorsett. Ditto with Prust and giving up a 5th plus taking his 1.9M cap hit.
And he gave Miller a limited NTC and 3 years plus big money despite it being known that Miller wanted to be on the West coast and the 23 Cali teams already had starters. He gave up a 2nd for Linden Vey, which I highly doubt any team would give for him right now.
And Kassian was given away for free yet Beartschi who also demanded a trade had to be acquired for a 2nd which the Calgary GM said was "by far the best offer we received". Clendening was just thrown in a trade after we gave up a prospect who has been developing well and had a strong WJHC tourney for him originally(Forsling).
Benning bought high on Bonino then sold low on him and now he's buying high on Sutter and selling Bonino after his value came back down. - Nucker101
I don't know really. I have only suggested the reasoning for his returns as best I could. I've admitted he's not looking in this department. I guess the difference in us is I'm capable of seeing the obvous reasons that are up front. I just read over page after page of facts and details being ignored... and keep addressing those. I'm not about to act like you over the details and red flags I agree with though. Your concerns are so exaggerated... if someone was to listen to you... they'd think that Benning has been (frank)ing this team up for years... even after the injection of youth, improved overall play and a reappearance in the playoffs.
The worst 1 year GM in history somehow had a rebound season and help boost our prospect pool. Hes useless.

Cut me some slack... I've been trying to catch up to the end of this thread for hours with no luck. I'm crossing replies and everything. Just replied to lefty thinking it was Bloated. What a complete waste of sarcasm.

Benning had no need to be desperate in the Sbisa/Beartschi/Vey/Dorsett negotiations as well. And in the Miller negotiations, I'd argue that Miller was just as desperate as Benning yet Benning decided to make a strong initial offer instead of trying to wait him out. - Nucker101
Sbisa Sbisa Sbisa.... yawn
