Clendening seemed to be fairly highly thought of on these boards a few weeks back. - walshyleafsfan
Not really, I think it was just expected in the youth movement that he would get his shot. I think with the signing of Bartowski, we really didnt have as many openings on D as they wouldve liked this year, so rather than diminish his value included him in the deal |

Maybe JB thinks Sutter is an upgrade at 2lc? not sure why the draft picks either.
Some might say Sutter is the best player in the deal, so Vancouver won the trade.
It seems like a lateral move when you look at our 4th line centre situation and the Pens turning around and signing Fehr. - hillbillydeluxe
Some would be wrong. |

So essentially we traded Bieksa, Bonino, and Clendening for Sutter and a 3rd? |

Also not suited to play bottom 6 in WD's system. With Horvat moving up, we need a reliable C in bottom 6. I am not just not understanding the draft picks in this deal - WhiteLie
If we gave up a low 2nd for a high 3rd...I'm not losing sleep over it. This trade tells me Horvat is 2C and Sutter is better suited for bottom 6 than Bonnino. I don't care about Clendenning as he was waiver eligible. Anyone know Sutters contract status? |

Benning should write a book on Asset Management.

That's a list of very mediocre NHL players, one has yet to make the NHL...hardly a big loss.
Still - I have no idea what they're trying to do??? |

I am one of the few that like Sutter better than Bonino. - VANTEL
Agree this trade is excellent for us. Bonino was a bust and a massively poor skater while the jury was way out on Clendening. Everything coming out of the CHI camp indicated he may be a bust as well. Sutter provides speed and consistency plus work ethic. This is the player we sjuld have acquired in the Kesler deal that flopped to PIT. We get rid of two maybe's for consistency. Well done JB. |

Agreed.
I'll take Sutter over Bonino for a 3C role however i find it incomprehensible that we added a second let alone Clendening... |

I miss Bonino's cap hit for the next 2 years.
1.8 million for 40 points is crazy generous and we just did Pittsburgh a HUGE favor.
Taking salary cap off their hands, and Clenndenning is on a 2 way deal.
- classic321
I look at it this way. I think Bonino may be a better second liner than Sutter but that job is clearly going to Bo. I think Sutter is a better third liner than Nick |

Sutter is a UFA after the season. How do you feel now?
Clendenning is an RFA. Bonino has 2 years and half the price before he's a UFA. |

Agreed, got Clendening's old ass outta here plus Benning can definitely draft a better sleeper prospect in the 3rd instead of the 2nd. |

We're going to miss Bonino's offence. He was miscast as a second line centre, but he provided solid depth scoring on a very cap friendly contract. Sutter better hit everything in site and win every faceoff he takes. - CubanBuffet
Bonino had 10 pts less in VAN than in ANA with way more TOI in Van...we ain't gonna miss his inconsistency and poor skating... |
