Even if that was the case I wouldn't consider him for captain. Can't say I know him personally at all but he just doesn't come of as captain material, regardless of experience, contract, production. I don't mind keeping him as assistant.

I think we go with three assistants and I wouldn't mind seeing Greene, Rico and Lars as a long shot/ interesting choice. I wouldn't mind cammy as an assistant he plays hard and with fire. Zajac also could remain an A. I think maybe patty wears a letter and especially if zacha makes the team.

Ultimately this year and likely next won't matter if we have a captain or not so its not a big deal to me there isn't anyone making it so we can't select them so let's wait for that guy.

I can see why people think it should be him but they're wrong.

Once you cut out those who underperform, haven't lived up to the hype or remain dead wood, the pickings are slim.

Better to wait a couple years rather than saddle a nice young player with that weight and watch him snap. Good management right there. Smart.

Andy Greene is the only choice if you ask me.

I like Henrique as the choice, but not only because he's been clutch in certain situations. I like how he is always accountable when interviewed and how he sticks his nose in there when it's required. He's not an overly physical player but will stand up for himself and others when needed.

I think it's gotta be someone who will be here long term. Henrique, Zajac and Greene would be good picks, especially Henrique or Greene, but I think if we wait for a year or two I would go with Severson or Santini if he pans out. They both have the qualities to be the captain, it's just Santini has to pan out to be really good in two years.

I think it is good that we don't have a captain right now. With Hynes and new coaches coming in, with no captain delineated, it will allow Hynes to take on more of a leadership role than if we had a captain that was being carried over from the old coaches/administration. I see the benefit in not electing one this year in that sense for sure.

Also as Todd pointed out, they (Shero and Hynes and crew) are still unaware of the interpersonal dynamics from player to player on the ice, on the bench, in the locker room, and in practice which will take some time for them to get a feel for. For them to elect a captain now, at this stage, would really be inappropriate and a shot in the dark guess, based on first impressions. Unless they deem it necessary for whatever reason and its a pure player vote, I think it's better to role with the A's this season. If by some miracle we make the playoffs then make the call, but that isn't happening so.

Henrique is the clear pick for me. Love Greene, but Henrique has the capacity to lead this team in the direction that the organization is planning. He embodies "fast, attacking, and supportive."

We all know he's scored clutch goals, he was playoff MVP in junior, he's the only player on our roster to be up for any major award in recent years, he has a great media personality, and he is a strong enough two-way player that we won't be shifting our franchise identity to something completely foreign. He also has term on his contract and is loved by pretty much every Devils fan.

I'd say do a home/away alternate captain switch

Elias/henrique as one pair
Greene/tootoo,cammy, zajac or whoever you pick as the 4th

Wait for a player to come along for the C

Just give it zacha for his 9 games.

Not going full retard, but look at the guys that wear the C now and in years past. Lead by example. If q guy can't go out there when the game is on the line and produce...or lay a big hit...or stand up for a teammate and fight when necessary. ..or just have that charisma as a captain...then he shouldn't be given the C. Zajac would never compare to guys like Backes, Toews, Steve Y, or even Dustin Brown. It would be a waste of the C. Keep him wearing the A.
