I forgot how tradable Santorelli was when injured. - A_SteamingLombardi
Exactly and just because he is cheap doesn't make it a smart move. He fills absolutely no need for ANA whatsoever. Last time I checked ANA was deep enough and didn't need soft/speedy Raymond style players that only get 10 goals per year. Baffling move for ANA as he doesn't seem to fit their structure at all.

WooHoo, posting privileges reinstated.
Carol mentions it in the blog...here is the exert.
First week of October: All-Star Game to introduce the league. Team Russia will make up one side; the other side will be a collection of players from all countries, including the U.S. and Canada, who won't ice full teams this year. - Makita
OK I stand corrected. it happens |

It was strange, after the political posts a week ago and I responded to scooby, in which I posted my thoughts on our current leader and requested no more political posts in a hockey blog.
I was promptly denied posting privileges, and was made to verify my account with a pin number, which took a week to obtain after several requests.
Now it's quite possible hockeybuzz support is completely over worked and inundated with requests, but certainly seems suspicious. - Makita

Oh yeah, I forgot we prefer trading away/downgrading picks to get bottom 6 players instead of trading them away for picks during a "retool". - Nucker101

'Raymond style'???!!
Santo played hard every night and was productive more often than not and used his versatility to improve his line.
Raymond would do nothing and was productive once in a blue moon... |

Once in a blue moon, meaning twice as many goals as Santorelli while being the same age. |

Nice move. They are the favourites to win... This is just another speedy player on a team that gained a lot of speed with Hagelin and has Cogliano as well to make up for the lack of footspeed from Getzlaf and Perry...
They were hard to beat last season and they'll be even better this year.
Kesler may have made the best move going to the Ducks. Bieksa just might end up with a cup for his troubles... Canucks should have made that draft pick conditional (ie: moving up a round or two if Ducks win the cup, or having a conditional thrown into the mix).. - kaptaan

Benning is the GM good GM's like to pick on.

I forgot how predictable injuries were. I remember all the Canucks fans predicting injuries for Kesler last summer. |

You send a player packing because they underachieve
You bring them back because you underachieve - VANTEL
1) he didn't underachieve, he overachieved
2) Flipping vets for picks is basically how to re-tool. I would rather trade a bottom 6 vet on our roster for a pick/prospect, sign a replacement and then flip the replacement for another pick.
Kinda like how Kesler's money went towards Vrbata who should be flipped for another pick. Keep doing moves like those and even a poor negotiator like Benning will have an easier time rebuilding. |

If he overachieved why did Gillis Nonis Benning and Poille all refuse to re-sign him |

Gillis never got the chance, he may have eventually re-signed him. Benning is pretty stubborn when it comes to who he likes and who he doesn't.
Santorelli didn't fit well with the Preds and who knows if they might've offered him a contract or not.
I'm surprised Toronto didn't sign him, but maybe he wanted to go to a contender and chill at the beach. |

They wanted to leave room for young players to make the team? |

No doubt, but there's always players re-signed after the season. Either way my point about recycling vets for picks instead of keeping the same one's around still stands. |

I don't buy it. Hero or goat, and pay thrice the taxes he's paying now with a higher cost of living on a worse team. I bet he'll re-sign in Tampa for 8 years, $85 million. - 1970vintage
In no way do I believe that Stammer ever plays in T.O. and what you say above is true, but I'd be willing to bet that his endorsement deals as a Leaf would more than make up any tax benefits in TB.
I also believe that bonuses are taxed differently (at 15%?), so you could bet that any deal that Stammer was to sign in Canada would be HEAVILY weighted with bonus dollars if that's the case. |

He's going to the Leafs, I've been told it's happening. Wether it makes sense to you or me doesn't matter, he wants to go home and bring the cup back to Toronto. (frank) Tampa with their flip flops and lower taxes. He's a true Canadian kid wanting to bring the cup back to his home town.
100 million or 60 million, don't think that really matters to him. He will make way more in endorsements playing for the leafs than a poopty sun belt team in Florida. |

Seriously? We're arguing about Santorelli signing with Anaheim? I know it's the dog days of summer by why do we care about a marginal smallish/injury-prone center that likely rides the pine or press box in Anaheim? No team is going to give up more than a 3rd or later pick for him at the trade deadline so I don't see why it's such a big deal to the kaptaans and Nuckers of the world. It's not like he's suddenly going to massively improve our team or get us an extra 1st or 2nd round pick because he's going to defy all projections and odds and be a 50-60point center. |
