In no way do I believe that Stammer ever plays in T.O. and what you say above is true, but I'd be willing to bet that his endorsement deals as a Leaf would more than make up any tax benefits in TB.
I also believe that bonuses are taxed differently (at 15%?), so you could bet that any deal that Stammer was to sign in Canada would be HEAVILY weighted with bonus dollars if that's the case. - As_I_See_It
I don't think the CRA cares weather your paycheque was a bonus or a salary, they're going to want their 55% or whatever that tax bracket pays. Now, there are obviously all kinds of ways to shelter that money and pay less tax, and yes, he would likely have more opportunity for endorsement deals, but I don't think he's hurting in that department now... It's nothing against the leafs, this isn't my blind Canuck hatred of TO, I just don't see why a player like Stamkos would make that change next year given where the two clubs are at this point. I expect him to sign one of those big max deals.

He's going to the Leafs, I've been told it's happening. Wether it makes sense to you or me doesn't matter, he wants to go home and bring the cup back to Toronto. (frank) Tampa with their flip flops and lower taxes. He's a true Canadian kid wanting to bring the cup back to his home town.
100 million or 60 million, don't think that really matters to him. He will make way more in endorsements playing for the leafs than a poopty sun belt team in Florida. - Scooby_Doo

Not at all. I think what Scooby said was that he heard it from a guy who heard it from the "horses mouth", which was the agent of the guy, who could very well have been talking out his ass. I don't really care one way or the other. |

Said his Buddy went golfing with Don Meehan and that Steve wants to bring the cup to toronto.
I think that he means that when he wins a cup in Tampa he will spend his time with it in the GTA |

Yeah, that's what I just said, he heard it from a guy who heard it from the "horses mouth". Agree, If he wins a cup in Tampa I'm sure he would bring it home to TO to show off. |

Once in a blue moon, meaning twice as many goals as Santorelli while being the same age. - A_SteamingLombardi
In Vancouver. One season apart Santo had more points per game and was more of an on ice presence than Raymond ever was... |

'Raymond style'???!!
Santo played hard every night and was productive more often than not and used his versatility to improve his line.
Raymond would do nothing and was productive once in a blue moon... - kaptaan
I'm not questioning Santo's work ethic or effort...I'm questioning his toughness (or lack of it) and how that will mesh with the ANA lineup...doesn't make sense. |

They are trying to win a cup, we are trying to find roster spots for young players - VANTEL
Key word here is 'trying'. Won't happen with Kesler in the lineup...ever. |

Ic.. but Santo will mesh with the speed game they are trying to get going with Hagelin...
Ic them as the top contenders for the cup at this point. I'd certainly like to see some ex-Canucks win the cup this season. Santo, Kesler, Bieksa,... |

I have a friend who is an agent and he never let's anything slip.
I am certain that anything Meehan puts out there was intentional and has a purpose.

I've been to Tampa and let me tell you its a hell of a lot nicer place to live than TO. I have also been there during a hurricane and would rather chance it than spend 7 months of the year in snow and poopty weather. Quality of life in Tampa isn't bad. Food is better in the US also. This is just a few examples of why Stamkos leaving would be stupid. All this has nothing to do with the hockey aspect of the game. |

I don't buy it. Hero or goat, and pay thrice the taxes he's paying now with a higher cost of living on a worse team. I bet he'll re-sign in Tampa for 8 years, $85 million. - 1970vintage
Leave a power house contender who shows up in the playoffs for the Leafs.

Nice move. They are the favourites to win... This is just another speedy player on a team that gained a lot of speed with Hagelin and has Cogliano as well to make up for the lack of footspeed from Getzlaf and Perry...
They were hard to beat last season and they'll be even better this year.
Kesler may have made the best move going to the Ducks. Bieksa just might end up with a cup for his troubles... Canucks should have made that draft pick conditional (ie: moving up a round or two if Ducks win the cup, or having a conditional thrown into the mix).. - kaptaan
Kesler and Bieksa eating up 11 mil in salary a year is awesome in my opinion.

It's a 2nd hand story from a friend that isnt even credited with Stamkos being the source.... and it's 100% true and going to happen as far as your are concerned.
