Making the case for and against Milan Lucic becoming a member of the Vancouver Canucks in 2016-17.

I'd stay away. He'll want a long-term, expensive contract. And in my opinion he's likely not a guy who will be able to perform at a really high level in his mid-to-late 30s, given his style of play and size. Vancouver's window is closing. Focus on getting young players, fast players, skilled players. There will be better and cheaper options available both in the system and out of the system. It just seems like signing Lucic would be an odd move for a team that is semi-rebuilding. Maybe he helps you win a few more games during the season, but I'm not sure he's what helps you become a contender again.

Lucic is not coming here. He said all this on Vancouver radio pandering to the Vancouver audience. He is not what the team needs, a 6 million dollar boat anchor, with a bad attitude.

He has no class and would do the team more harm then good. Stay in LA with the rest of the douche bags. He'll fit right in down there.

Completely agree. We need to get in the mindset of developing from within even if it means a couple of years lower in the standings and thus better draft position. Going after Lucic would cost cap space, draft picks and help us to be mediocre for years to come.

I have already, stated my dislike for him, but I do think there is a real chance Benning goes after him strong.

Prior to a few of Benning's moves there were many rumours about the player prior to him signing/trading.

My guess is Benning offers him 7 million over 4-5 years if he goes to UFA.
I will be even more pissed if he trades for him and then signs him though.....

The only thing i disagree about this post is that you say that "Vancouver's window is closing." The window is closed.... tight.

Rebuild organically and stay away from high priced UFA's who will help the team win now. Winning a few more games now at the expense of cap and roster flexibility is ultimately detrimental to the rebuild.

I'd only consider Lucic if we can sign him for less than what he's making now, where he takes 4-4.5 mil for no more than 3 or 4 seasons. But he's going to be looking for at least 7 mil for 5-6 years and he's not even close to worth that. If we're going to go for a big UFA, I'd rather offer Seabrook 9 mil and bring him home before Lucic.

This.... the Canucks #1 priority should be Brent Seabrook.

By the time our youth is NHL-ready and competitive, Jake Virtanen will then be more effective than Lucic IMO.

My only hope is that Lucic doesn't end up an Oiler next year playing bodyguard to McDavid...

I can't stand that Douchebag Lucic..... I hate him for his history with the Canucks and he also has a history of being a douche with my second fave club, the Habs. So, Benning, Just Say No To Lucic, avoid him like the Plague.

On another note, if there is an expansion draft, can we finally dump Pizza Boy by not protecting him from being drafted by either Las Vegas or Quebec?

Also, does anyone know when you can start buying Game Center Live (the individual team packages in particular) ?

I think if you can get Luc at 5.5 for 4 years you don't hesitate. Our homegrown talent is about 5 years away from making an impact.

He could make a lot of space in front of the net for guys like Sutter, Vey Baertschi or Horvat. Depending who he played with. He could be exactly what Vey needs.

This debate is nothing new to us, most of us already know how each individual feels here.i respect all the no votes but as you know I am a yes vote

I agree with Vantel, provided it is 5mil or less. however if JV shows up at training camp and developes like Horvat, then we don't need him. I still think we need to dump Higgins somewhere? AHL maybe?

I think we need to cut Sbisa loose before Higgins.... at least Higgy has some Abs and is somewhat decent in the shootout

I disagree with this in that signing Lucic isn't about winning a Championship or any "window", it's about him and his presence just being in the lineup. A lineup of all skilled forwards keeps getting the Oiler top three picks. It's about having that blend of size, speed, skill and toughness.

Having a player like him makes the upcoming kids walk taller and makes the team more difficult to play against. If he would take a four year deal at a reasonable number I'd sign him for sure.

Do I like him, no, but if he helps the team win I'm all for it. At least he's an honourable douche-bag lol, he doesn't bite or pull hair. He just smashes your teeth in!!!

Sounds reasonable, wouldn't be surprised if it went to 6.5 but if it went to 7, pitchforks would be coming out.

How much are top6 players worth? Could easily dump Dorsett or Prust with him added and open up a spot for a young player on a cheap contract in the bottom 6.

Higgins needs to go

Less shootouts this year because of 3 on 3

How many shootouts did Higgins participate in 3?

That clip yesterday didn't show an honourable Lucic.

But who cares as long as he sticks up for team mates.

Uh if he was willing to sign for 4.5 or 5 for 4 years he'd still be a Bruin.

A simple no would've sufficed guys. No need to qualify it with nonsensical contract ideas that have no basis in reality.

That said you know it's coming. Better prepare yourselves.
