It's not so much that he likes or dislikes the moves, he's just a downer about it. He's a poster and entitled to his opinion like everyone else. That doesn't mean his opinion is any more right or wrong.
Then again, he hated all of Chip Kelly's moves this offseason and the Eagles look pretty damned good. - golfingsince
Sure I'm just saying that the notion that there are people here who support Benning in all his moves is as false as saying there are some who dislike all his moves.

I gladly welcome Sutter Vey Sbisa Sven over Bieksa Raymond Higgins . I know Raymond was gone before JB. I am just tired of trying to win with the same old guys - VANTEL
how about Sutter, Vey, Sbisa, Sven
vs
Bieksa, Kesler, Mathias and Garrison though. |

hey guys
Buddy at work and I are looking into doing a simple Fantasy hockey pool. Anyone know of a free app you can use where you can set your own rules? |

Yahoo is best but pickuphockey is okay as well.
I should clarify that they are websites, not apps, although I think Yahoo has added an app recently but I expect it to be sh!t.... |

I am just as leery about Benning as the next guy, but I do see a pattern. He is adding some toughness and bringing in some size. He is making us more playoff ready.
He has tried to bring in the skilled player to with Sven and Vey, but it will take a few years to develop..
I think through and through he is bringing in a more rounded team. Some of his moves are very questionable but like he did in Boston , he is bringing in the player he likes and developing them into how he sees they fit on the team.
I am more than willing to give him his chance and I will accept the mistakes along the way.
We haven't even played a game this year so I am quite interested to see how it plays out. If we lose I will welcome the draft pick but I think he may just impress a few people somewhere. |

People seem to forget the season they just had under him. As I just said, they had 101 points and finished 8th overall, so I'm wondering....what are people basing their assessment that this ship is sinking on?
Yes I've outwardly questioned some things he's done, however, I know for a fact that it's an extremely difficult environment to just wholesale change everything out, for any manager, it's just not realistic.
There's absolutely zero foundation to say he's running the team into the ground, there is however, factual information (101 pts) that indicates he knows what he's doing...for the most part. - LeftCoaster
ALL WRONG BECAUSE HE SIGNED SBSISA. Don't you know,,, we cant draft or develop the next generation because we signed Sbisa to 300k more than he was entitled too... and for the horrendous long term of 3 years.... this will screw us for a decade or three.

I agree, im happy with his Sutter trade, clendening was a bit much to add, but im guessing if Benning is a good scout clendening just didnt cut it so im happy with the trade |

I give Nucker full credit for getting us talking all summer. He has his opinion and I respect it and always enjoy his posts . As always we never agree but I do enjoy the chat - VANTEL
This is how I feel about almost everyone here. I'm not looking to have my own opinions verified but I like to see what other people are thinking and how they got there. |

Sutter is just a better option than Bonino. Bonino made it through the year last year playing 2 nd line and I think it will be fun to watch Horvat and Sutter battle it out for top position |

It's a hockey forum in the summer. We're all of us saying the same things over and over, Nucker's simply taken a pessimistic viewpoint. And not, as far as I can tell, because he's inherently pessimistic, but because that's how he views the team.
Personally, I'm willing to wait and see and hope for the best, but I'm not going to lie, I find the "Everything is Awesome" crowd just as tiring as the Benningadon one. - CubanBuffet
Is there a everything is awesome crowd? Thats a joke right?
I know nucker would point at me but I said it enough times, I'm not happy with all the additions or contracts.... It appears that Benning is making trades hastily and sacrificing some value, and it's not without reason.... none of it is as damaging as some make it out to be though... panicking over losing a handful of positions late in the 2nd round or early 3rd is not the end of the world and is not a indication on how it's always going to be. I'm just part of the rational crowd..... facing off against exaggerating or fabricating posters. I don't ever intend to keep people from discussing anything but I'll continue to challenge the BS as long as it's being posted. Why do people cry about that? |

It was an exaggeration, but no more than the people saying Nucker's negative about everything. I can't say it any better than Belch did a page or two back.

Good information, but an App would be best as they make drafting that much easier, as well as every other aspect. Most of us will update at work, and it is easier to do on phone than work computers. |

When Kesler was on the trade block the offers most thrown around here were
Etem and the Ana first.
Bonino and the Ana first
Sutter Pulliot and a first
Terevanien and a first.
Kesler handcuffed us and said he would only go to Ana. We got back Bonino a first Sbisa and Dorsett. Bonino was a disappointment so Benning got the other player he and we wanted Sutter. We got McCann who most people thought was a steal. We got Dorsett and yes we got pizza boy.
It was not exactly what we wanted but it was close and that is not bad considering he could only trade to one team |

Yahoo's fantasy app was great for my baseball pool
Haven't done hockey though, but if the system is the same it should be just as good |

You can certainly interpret the evidence that way, and I'm leaning in that direction as well, but you could also argue that the bounce back season had as much to do with the lack of Tortorella as anything that Benning did.
Edit: I reported myself to save you the trouble Marwood. - CubanBuffet
... Benning hired WD who played a 4 line game with the more balanced depth that was added.... hard to say it would have been the same with anyone but Torts.
Bounce back aside,,, they lost Kesler and improved on some areas including secondary 5 on 5 scoring and 2nd unit PP production(at times). The 101 season did happen Torts or not. The critics were crying the same blues at the beginning of last season,,, were wrong,,,, and continue to cry the same sad song a year later. Lefty is right... I have been saying it all along... what is there to prove the pessimists right so far? They are ignoring the huge contradictions to their drama or jumping the gun on their speculation of what they think will happen in the future. Did JB fail by only finishing 8th with 101 points in a season when pretty much no one thought they could go to the playoffs?
It's funny how nucker hitched his wagon to a team that already has been at the bottom for years and now has a well stocked cupboard of young players making an impact in the NHL and has already gone through the worst part of the rebuild process... right on time. Judging by his reaction to the very earliest stages of the downward trend here.... it's best that way. He clearly doesnt have the stomach for it.

I agree, i think Horvat will take it from him if he continues with the level of play he showed in the playoffs, but i also think sutters gunna shine not being in the shadow of crosby malkin. |
