Yeah, it's bizarre that he basically did a 180. He got too cute with his drafting theories as well and tried to "buy low" on declining veterans when the team was already headed downward. The NTC'scane back to bite him in the ass and everyone loves to complain about them but does this team even make the SCF had they paid an extra 500K-1M for each player instead of giving them a ntc? Probably not.

I had no problem with the NTCs in 2011. They made sense and they were attached to genuinely good contacts. But did the Sedins take a home town discount on their current contracts, or Burrows or Hansen or Higgins? If they did, it was no where near enough to warrant trade protection.

The finals broke the Canucks, but they broke Gillis too.

It's hard for me to judge the sedins contract, they were always going to get nmc's and at this point I don't think they are overpaid, in two years probably a different story.

I hated the Burrows deal when it was signed, knowing it was kicking in when he was past his prime for the cap hit was painful, but I am actually ok with it now. Given the rise in contract values, his is pretty on par for what he brings. Not a steal but close enough to market value

imo once a player asks for a trade, his NTC should be null and void. the clause is meant to ensure that the player stays with the team he signed with. if he wants out, this effectively means that he wants to rescind that clause.

at the very least, gm's should clarify that in those situations a player should have to submit a 10 team list.

another thing is not guaranteeing contracts, esp for coaches. Torts signed a 5 yr and got canned after 1 yet paid for 4 more. Where else doesn't THAT exist? We get canned we are lucky for 2 weeks pay. 10M for coaching a single year is retarded.

I believe there should be a conduct and performance exemption. When torts rushed the flames dressing room I felt right there his contract should have been voided. When it was learned he never ran a single practice it should have been voided as well. Talking to the press then going home to walk the dogs the rest of the day isn't excusable. Do your job! If you're not going to then contract should be void. Period.
