NSH has had a great defense for years and won nothing. It's insanely ignorant to believe just having a good crop of defensive prospects alone will be enough to fix everything. - jfkst1
If you go back and read again I also included future forward prospects as well. Even added in a (hopefully) there as to not deal in absolutes.
Kessel, Crosby, Malkin will sure score a lot of goals but that PIT defense is looking interesting atm. Hopefully Matta and Letang can stay healthy otherwise it doesn't look too pretty. |

yeah....
crosby will not ever be traded.
malkin will return to russia
kessel and letang may be traded
the rest is accurate. you dont have to exaggerate to make philly look bad. you have to over exaggerate to make them look even above expansion team right now. - ChrisMS
Crosby could be traded, he could even ask for a trade, you have no idea what the future holds. If he's in his early 30's and wants another crack at a cup and doesn't see it happening in Pitts that years he coudl easily ask to be moved. It won't hurt his legacy with the Penguins, ditto Malkin, ditto Letang. Kessel has played for 3 teams now, he has no loyalty to anyone. And what did I exaggerate? Everything I said was 100% accurate, even if it was just to shut a moron up. |

sir potato... forgive him. he lost his sense of humor to advanced statistics. - ChrisMS
And yet with two all world players they have won one cup ? And somehow with the crap that was added this summer they are cup contenders now? I'm so confused. The pens are done. If they weren't done they would advance further in the playoffs and win other cups!! They would be able to beat the garbage team in the division ... The flyers. We are only adding to our core with great prospects. We will be a contender in two years. The pens will be tight against the cap with four huge contracts for four players!!! Yah. Pens are amazing 😜 |

Or what the world will explode? They MUST not do anything. I think very highly of those 2 but if it came down to having to rebuild a future we supposedly threw away iit wouldn't take much at all. And NTC's are easy to move because those 4 are winners and if they had a chance to move on to help a contender for that season they most likely would. AND most importantly your defense "crop" is only insane in the context of your current mindset and that's it. They have the potential to be NHL players at this point and not much more than that. - Dcoms
You're absolutely right about the potential part. But when you have that many quality prospects, youre pretty much guaranteed at least 1 or 2 to pan out. I think Malkin would bolt to the KHL before agreeing to be traded anywhere else. Crosby has been touted as the best player in the game for years. If he walks away from his career with 1 stanley cup, I would consider that a massive disappointment on PIT's end. Just my opinion i guess but oh well |

BTW same could be said about your future star goaltending prospects. That's a nice thought and everything but they have also proven nothing.
Listen, you're team is obviously better than the Flyers currently. But if you think you're going to trade Crosby, Malkin, Letang, and Kessel and get full value for each one of them, especially when they are all past their primes, you are delusional. |

The Flyers are right at the cap too, but then again they are paying winners like Lecalvalier big money. To be the Flyers and capped out with that horrible defense and pedestrian bottom 9 is laughable. You guys think Giroux is in the same conversation as Crsoby and Malkin yet he's won nothing, he can't even get on the Canadian Olympic team so he's not eve one the 15 best forwards in the game AND HE"S YOUR BEST PLAYER! Contender in 2 years? What a joke, unless Hextall trades for Crosby which everyone knows is not happening. IN 2 years the Oilers and the Sabres will become the most dominant teams in the league, it's inevitable because they have sucked for so long that they have built up an impressive stable of top 5 picks. Teh Flyers are always going to be in the bad-medicore range, they have no future. |

its insanely ignorant to think it cant either. name one team that has great prospects throughout all areas and you just named a rebuilding team that hasnt a chance at a cup. this is and always will be the case. in this day in age. you dont like it root for the panthers, jackets, yet to be named expansion teams. maybe you'll be satisfied then. |

Sad thing is, it would still be 1 more than the Flyers' entire franchise has won over the last four decades.

and wont be. crsoby is worth more than his on ice play in marketing. maybe MAYBE in his late thirties he decides to retire a hab or something. malkin I would be shocked if he doesnt go khl before he retires. What you said was 100% exaggerated even if it was to shut a moron up. it aint a video game. |

I guess it's just weird to me that Pen's fans would consider having Crosby and Malkin surrounded by mediocre talent and winning one cup with them a success.

Flyers have an excellent defensive crop but that's where it ends. Compared to other teams in the division alone like NYI and CBJ, their overall prospect pool and young roster players aren't great. Which consequently means the team's future isn't all that impressive. Even less so when compared to teams that have deliberately been tanking to collect picks. BTW, by the time Hextall clears his bad contracts and the prospects are developed, Giroux and Vorachek will be in "win now mode." |

I don't think any Penguin fan would consider the last 5 or so seasons successes. But in Pittsburgh it's rings or nothing.
As far as Crosby's legacy, that's still to be written. The idea that he's not in his prime is preposterous. And the Penguins look fine for the foreseeable future. Their older guys will be off the books shortly with that money available to spend, and their only upcoming big extensions to worry about are Maatta and eventually Pouliot.
And instead of the Penguins' top D prospects being a year or two away like the Flyers, they're already here and ready to go.

People probably don't realize that Giroux is only 5 month younger than Crosby. |

That's too much objectivity. I notice Getzlaf and Perry don't gets mentioned for being in "win now" mode either. |

The parity in the NHL today is insane. So many teams with legitimate superstars who can all realistically contend for the Cup. And then you have teams on the rise like Columbus, Dallas, NYI, Edmonton, Calgary etc. |

I consider any player winning a cup in his lifetime a success given the amount of people who retire without ever having the chance to lift it. Do we want more? Sure, what hockey fan doesn't. But you guys are just trying to find a way to knock our guys down a peg because of your own self loathing about how utterly crappy your team is. |

I think that's why depth is so important. And NHL allows obstruction so discrepancy between elite and non-elite player talent is mitigated. |

Giroux is pretty much in "win now" mode right now. Jakey has another couple years in him but i have a bad feeling G's best offensive season is behind him. - Mordecai
You must be 15 years old if you think being in your mid to late 20's is past your prime. Lebron James will be 31 in December and there is little doubt that he will be carrying the Cavs on his back come June to another finals. Hockey is harder mind you because you have to have the perfect mix of the right roster, health, luck, chemistry, opponents with match up problems etc. It has little to do with age, almost nothing really other than you probably won't win 4 rounds with a team full of 39 year olds because they will break down. But just south or north of 30 is still prime time win time. |

The Flyers have some good defensemen in the pipeline, especially Provorov and Morin, but Provorov especially is a few more years from helping. |
