Dion Phaneuf
Franson out produced him while making substantially less and both are pylons so hey laugh all you want.
In 55 games with the Leafs last year Franson had 32 points, in 70 games for the Leafs last year Phaneuf had 29 points...

Phaneuf is still the better player. |

Agreed. I think in general Phaneuf is pretty good, just no where near 7 mil good |

Klefbom 7 years at 4+. Buying in early could payoff huge for the oilers. I think BUF should do the same with Risto. |

I would argue differently. Franson has about the same points per 60 numbers, yet doesn't have the poop possession numbers of Phaneuf.
edit: I would post the pics to prove it, but imgur isn't working at the moment
edit2: Dion Phaneuf posted a corsi per 60 minutes relative to his teammates (meaning the differential between Dion's on ice corsi value and the corsi value of his teammates while not playing with him) of -2.7. Franson's corsi%RelTM is +1.8. Franson improves the possession statistics of his line mates while Phaneuf makes it worse.
Now Phaneuf's opposition had a corsi% of 50.2, while Franson's opposition had a % of 50.0, so basically they were playing against the same level of competition. |

Solid. Just plain solid there Mister Pach.
Enjoying the reading, looking forward to the rest in the series!
I like hearing that Zemgus is 2nd line wing...he has the wheels to keep up with Eichel...looking for 25 out of him this year.
Moulson on the left is good..he can collect the leftovers...which ain't a bad thing...30 for him this year mesays.
I'm really torn on MCabe..he'said one I have high expectations for, fits the eye eye test ... but I also think one more year in the A is the absolute best for him and therefore the Sabres in the long run.
Who's next? Could it be Samson? |

But they weren't playing the same competition. I'm not sure how you came up with that conclusion.

Phaneuf faced the tougher comp. and it wasn't really close relative to his teammates |

Nice read as usual Michael. It's too bad Franson can't/won't play the left side. However, if he helps out on the PP, I think this will be over-looked. It's only a 2-year front-end loaded deal. If there's no room in Buffalo for him, he'll be nice trade bait at the 2016/2017 deadline. |

Michael Pachla: Building the 2015-16 Buffalo Sabres roster--D, Cody Franson - Michael Pachla
I've been vocal from the outset that I didn't like the idea of signing Franson. He's slow and a liability in his own zone and is essentially a PP specialist. We didn't need a RD and I would have preferred going into camp with the D we have and possibly pick someone up on waivers/trade before the start of the season. Although my opinion on that hasn't changed much I'm ok with the contract he signed. If McCabe and/or Guhle impress at camp, we have a logjam on D. |

Looks like a big log jam to me
I would say after the Risto/Bogo pairing, it's anybody's guess who slots into the other 4 spots.
Just a guess
Gorges/Franson
Carlo/Pysyk
Not sure what the pairings were the first two days of camp though. |
