There's no way Carey Price can play as out if this world as he did last year.

Has it ever occured to anyone that maybe that's just Price playing like Price? He's been playing that way since the previous season's Olympic break.

He'll still be awesome, because he is awesome(damn you Price)!

People just don't think he'll have such an incredibly amazing season. Seriously a season like that from a goalie comes around maybe once a decade.

I wouldn't put habs 5th though thats for sure. Or Buffalo 2nd. LOL

Tanner's wet dream Buffalo vs Edmonton as the surprise 2016 SCF.

With Eichal female dog slapping McDavid into next week when he scores the SCF winner with his foot in the crease.

lol I do love that tanner put the top 4 - tampa, buffalo, florida, ottawa

I would place a sizeable wager that only 1 of those 4 makes the playoffs but kudos for his bold prediction

Goalies aside, I think Buffalo has a better team, assuming that both Eichel and Reinhart are top line players from the get go. I don't even think Buffalo's defense is that bad.

Well when you consider that surprises and anomalies do occur frequently, and when you also consider the parity of the league + the marginal difference in talent between the vast majority of professional players and divide that by how ridiculous predicting anything is in the first place without doing a proper probability analysis, then "crazy" predictions and "safe" predictions are no different.

The standings will be different from last year. I don't think Montreal's season from last year is any more repeatable than Calgary's. Buffalo has a great team, they should be in the Playoffs. Of course then can make anyone play wing, but if they want to, Eichel - Reinhart - Reilly could be the best 1-2-3 punch in the east down the middle.

People will of course wait for them to "prove it" and you can't argue that, but adding Eichel , Reinhart (I assume he makes it) Kane and O'Reilly to the same team at once is a level of insane no one is acknowledging. It is most likely the biggest single addition of talent applied to a team at once ever, in the history of the NHL.

The lines are pretty locked up for the Habs. The line of Pacioretty - Plekanec - Gallagher is pretty sure of some success, and what I've seen so far from the next 2 lines (if Fleischmann gets a contract) is very, very interesting. The defensive core is pretty good too, and with Price to back them up, they'll still be a hard team to score on.

Actually, my only problem with this team is the backup goalie...

I still see the Habs fight for top of the division.

I'll expect an apology when the Sabres finish higher than both the Habs and Wings.

Someone who gets paid to know, and write about hockey in a professional manner just picked the Habs, a team who probably only got better in the offseason to finish 4 spots lower than last season, and the team that finished the absolute worst that it could, 2nd?

That's just embarassing writing, I'm sorry. lol

LOL Tanner....first Rangers fans by saying their D is almost as bad as Edmonton's, now Habs fans by saying they will finish 5th in the Atlantic. Whose fan base is next?

I actually like Buffalo's chances to surprise this year (more so than Edmonton's) however I think it will be challenging for a wild card as opposed to finishing in the top 3 of their division.

Possibly, but the Sabres last year were also arguably one of the worst teams in NHL history too. At least when it came to possession numbers they were by far worse than any team in the last decade.

I think there is a fairly recognizable difference between a safe prediction and a crazy one. I dont want to really discuss montreal's chances as i'll be branded as a homer and i acknowledge they will likely regress to a degree. But to say that Buffalo's roster is comparable or better than the habs to me seems extremely farfetched. They have a much stronger prospect pool and some very strong young talent but at this point they are probably not even equal to the habs offensively (which isnt saying much).

Anomalies often happen however you are predicting a fair number of anomalies all occur within one division for this to come to fruition.
