I agree. A few egregious defensive lapses from vets and a poor showing from Miller covers up the fact that the Canucks were dominant tonight. - CubanBuffet
I saw a .gif over at CA of a beachball getting past Miller tonight. It's always funny when a Canuck goalie gives one up to a beach ball, but it looked pretty bad. |

Waivers shouldn't alter canucks decision on Hutton. Nobody is claiming weber. That (frank)er is about as useful as a poopy flavoured popsicle.
From what I understand Hutton's defensive game is a bit of an adventure so maybe a season in Utica will be good.
Canucks should try Vey on defense. Could he really be more lost then a couple of the other guys back there |

Hutton's offensive instincts are definitely there, plus he can skate, key point! With the limited amount of professional games he's got under his belt, it's his play without the puck that most likely needs some improving. A year with the Comets would really help this part of his game. |

I'd rather Vancouver use the Detroit model where u keep kids down in the minors until they are good and ready then the oiler model where you destroy player after player because you refuse to be patient |

I think most organizations understand the importance of letting kids develop before they're inserted into the line-up...except Edmonton. Until this year....maybe?
Most teams would put a kid in but insulate him with veteran players and put him in a lesser role so he can find his way, or he forces the issue with his play...see Bo Horvat.

a good game all in all, some bright spots and a few things to maybe worry about.
on the bright side i was really impressed with Friesen , he sure would look good as a fourth line center , reminds me of a Draper/Helm type guy , Jensen was actually playing a fairly strong game , Hutton with 3 assists and some nice calm plays in his own end in time he's gonna be a good one for sure. Gaunce is ready to take over for Higgins right now imo, and with his full year in the Ahl under his belt is probably most physically ready too.
hamhuis really has me a little worried with his skating , he seems to have lost a step, i wonder if surgery and full rehab would have been a better option?
it's a preseason game , so really nothing to pressing but if last night showed anything it is that our organizational depth is looking very good on all fronts really!

I am not sure if it was Nucker or someone else that said this is what we would look like if the Sedins and our top 3 D were gone. I think they were trying to be sarcastic but I liked what I saw. I like the future. I don't like now.
As I said last night , the vets have rust , but once it's gone I still know what they bring and that doesn't get my motor running.
I love the speed , the toughness and the 5 man unit over the two man cycle.
Skippy just mentioned about Hamhuis speed, this is why I think an extension is crazy. We have three good D prospects and when contracts are gone , out with the old in with the new. |

was always a Hammer fan ,but i do agree with you on this . the only way i would extend him now is if its for 2.5 -3.5 money and he is bottom 3 on d . just have him focus on D forget trying to be offensive , he just is not that kind of d-man |

I would be more concerned about locking up Bartowski. He looks like a younger Hamhuis but tougher.
He hits , he takes the puck out of the zone, he passes and has a good shot and hockey sense. He also can play with an edge.
I would concentrate on trading Hamhuis for a pick at TDL |

on another note , i sure would like the Coaching staff to try the Sedins on different combos 3v3, say like Hank with Burrows and Tanev , and Dannny with Weber and Horvat which i think would limit the lack of speed factor while spreading out their true strength in possession ability |

yes i find it weird that Boston let him walk, seeing as they need help on D, Bart and Luca are gonna rock some bodies this year and really bring a physical element to our third pairing |

Sometimes some players are just ready.
You learn a lot in the AHL . You learn the speed of the game, the size of the players , the toughness, what to do when you don't have the puck. You settle the nerves down there and build your confidence.
This kid is doing that already.
I don't care really if he does get sent down but him and Bartowski have been our two best Dmen up to now.
Hutton got hit hard last night and got up and hit two people immediately after.
This kid is/will be good |

Yeah , I am not on the Sbisa band wagon at all. I tried getting behind him but he is just a big mistake. |

Tonight the vets struggled , Hamhuis Edler Tanev Miller . The kids were good, but to be fair they have had the most of the ice time in the past weeks.
Hutton looked very good , had 2 assists and WD said after the game he likes what he sees and wants to see more next week - VANTEL
Vets cost us the game tonight vs Flames AHL squad.
Still no alarms going off yet but to me Miller still has speed issues side to side. He says he is fine but I don't see it. Edler and Tanev looked shaky at times but Hammer is slowing down a bit more. Could be tough for him speed wise this year.
Hutton looked confident as did Bartkowski. Bartkowski impresses more and more and Horvat's confidence level is still rising. McCann has excellent abilities and Gaunce looks like he wants to stick. All the positives were basically the youth but I did like Burrows compete last night. Even though we iced a good squad and lost to an AHL team. |

Sometimes a goalie steals you a game and sometimes they lose it for you. That's all last night was.
Luongo used to take almost a month to get going, so fingers crossed. |

It is preseason but we can't just shrug our shoulders and say oh well. We have seen signs for years about making AHL goalies look like Vezina winners, and turn no name slugs into hart trophy contenders.
I stick by my guns soon as all the core is gone then Canucks will become a contender |

Miller didn't look that good positionally and made some bad plays on the puck. He was not at his best. |

But they were bad give always by Eler Tanev Hamhuis that started the plays. There was more than just one at fault |
