The Subban thing still annoys me. Why couldn't they have given him a game or two and done the same with him? Even if he has like a 1% chance of making it, playing with some NHL'ers against a few NHL'ers would have been better for him and made him feel like they actually believed that he could make the team this year even if it wasn't the plan.

100 percent. Even if not for this year, the message would be that the management considers him a part of the future. Although we are not privy to what the players are being told, this seems like a kick in the face.

I don't comment a lot to avoid the Canuck fan bipolar syndrome and for the most part I've been patient with this management team and will continue to be. But sometimes, I just wonder.

Its about getting more interest in the league/game. If the brass says Europe you go to Europe.

Moot.

I'm sure these feeling you are talking about are your own and not his. If these prospects were down as easy as you over this stuff they wouldnt even try and be a NHL player.

You have to trick Subban into thinking he's has a chance to make the team this year??? You think he is that stupid?

- boonerbuck

He wouldn't be the first 20 year old rookie dman to make an NHL to make a team, nor the last. And we all agree that the defense sucked after the top 3 guys so yeah, I think deep down he thought he had a slight chance if really wowed the team. And even if he didn't, don't you think he'd want to impress the coaches/management showing what he can do against some NHL'ers to potentially earn himself a call-up later this year?

I have to admit this is a bit baffling. I get the fact that Utica needs players for France but not really at the expense of the big clubs development. Would have been real good to see Subban play against the Men to see where he stacks up. Shink and Pedan are down a game or two too soon.
- LordHumungous

So why do people think he cant develop with the other pro players in the AHL? It's only a game or two he going to miss... insignificant. This will not be any kind of setback. He just stepped out of junior and probably understands the situation much clearer than the confused fans.

Or, that you still have things to work on, and you need playing time to do so. Really, how many minutes do you think he was going to get now that rosters are at the point where they're closer to what they will be at the start of the regular season? Better to let him go and get used to his partner in France than keep him here and maybe he ends up having a bad start to the Utica season and loses confidence.

Putting Vey on the 4th line is just putting him in a position to fail.
- KB3Point0

Ya, but moving him up is a fail for the line mates he'll be with probably.

Yes, but I don't think more people in France will be interested in hockey because Jordan Subban is playing.

But why single him out?

Hutton/JV/McCann/Cassels are all first year pros and got games. I'm sure they said something similar to him, but I'm sure that if he's even half as competitive as PK that he's wondering why he didn't even get to lace em up for one game....I mean didn't he play in one last year and score a goal and then get sent down after?

- Nucker101

Try not to think of it as singling him out. Try and use logic.

I wonder how long he stays at 200lbs once the games start going. Hard to hold weight once you get the cardio going hard. My guess is he won't hold it and start shedding the pounds fast.

He actually got play in a pre-season game last year, and after an impressive junior season and a strong rookie tournament he gets zero this year while other first year pro rookies all got at least 1 game, some multiple. I'm not saying he's going to demand a trade because of this or quit pursuing his dream to become a NHL player but I do feel it's unfair to him.

He can develop for sure in the AHL all I'm saying is that it would have been nice to see him play vs a few of the men just to gauge a few things. No need to go any further than that...even if it was just one game. That is why there 8 preseason games and not 4. So at least there is a decent amount of time and games to get a good look at most of your top young guys. Subban doesn't need to be here for all 8 games to be sure...but one game vs a decent lineup would have been good IMO.

What 1st year pro prospect would take the message that he wasnt in their plans for the future over being cut early? Management has been really vocal about Subban on the positive side.

People have to get their head on straight. If people believe these negative "messages" are being sent... they believe the prospects are dumb as a stick.... maybe in a player like Kassian it would be true... but he is a rare brainless twat.

I got no problem with Vey on 4th line. All 3 guys don't need to fight. Might be nice to have a skilled guy that the goons can get the puck to on the forecheck turnover.

When are you going to realize that the NHL prospects are not as sensitive and fragile as your logic would suggest you are?

If he is as weak as you think... he probably isnt worth the effort.

Quite frankly, I wanted to see him play too and in sure many other fans did too. I wasn't expecting him to make the team this year or even next, but I want to see the future. Or the possibility of the future.

Does it matter? He will be playing with pro players... and they are marketing him. I'm sure he doesnt feel like he's been disrespected or isnt in their future plans over it. Why you are pushing this theory is obvious... just digging for more hate.

What pisses me off is everybody wanted a rebuild. So we are patient and try to do proper player development and they can't wait.......sigh. And if it doesn't work out it will be the team pushed the young guys to hard.

Again, they are not as fragile as your logic would suggest.... or they wouldnt even make it this far.

People keep implying that these prospects need to be handles like a bunch of abused 8 year olds.... kid gloves.... all the right language.... cater to their shattered confidence....

I don't think one pre-season game with the Canucks would be the team that pushed its young guys too hard.

Here is where my disappointment lays.... I would have liked to see him play a game for my own curiosity. Purely self serving.... just like everyone else... except they don't recognize it a that. They express themselves as it being a loss to the player and team.
