Agreed. Too much & too long.

Salary cap can't continue to grow as much as the salary-bar continues to rise.

Unless of course they start putting ads on jerseys. Then they could probably afford it.

- Eklund

May be a little long, but other than that you can basically pencil in my beloved Hawks to add a few more mugs to their current "Dynasty" collection.

Given the $$$, any team in the league would have taken this deal.

These are the sorts of shoulders upon which championship teams are built (Avs, take note).

In short, yes.

Crawford will be dealt in a year or two, especially if Darling keeps showing well.
- hawks2010

Right, but if that's the case they're gonna have to fork over a chunk of money to darling, no? Becomes kind of a wash.

People and "hockey analysts" have critisized 'Hawks cap and moves for the last 6 years. How has the team done in that time?

Seabs is a winner. Earned the contract.

Show loyalty in your organization and more premier players will want to play in your town.

and on cue, Travis Yost is complaining about this contract saying its a bad deal
Graph boy needs to cool it

- DDM-Coga

In a way, this deal is paying Seabrook for what he has accomplished, not what he's going to bring for 8 years. In that sense, yeah, it was a bad deal, but good defenders don't grow on trees and you know what you're getting with him. They have a capable top-2/4 defender they can rely on.

I'm not as down on Crawford as others are, he's not a top 5 goalie, but he's not a liability either, with goalies hitting the 8 or 9 million a year mark his cap hit may actually be attractive in 2-3 years.
- smellmyfinger

Pssssssst. It's the Blackhawks, Niemi won a cup, & they couldn't wait to unload him.
Crawford was a playoff MVP, (even Kane said it when he won it), and again Crawford is considered trash & needs to be dealt.
He's never been a problem, but now because other players are getting too much cash with a cap, he's considered a problem.

There isn't enough cash to pay other "premier players" now.
Ask Saad.

Isn't that what pretty much every contract a UFA gets, based upon? What they have accomplished? And based on that the coming years of said new contract are what the team expects out of him, more of the same?

Why is Crawford trash? Because Seabrook got a long term deal? Or because they bounced the flyers in 2010, then won again a couple years later with a different tender?

Money is fair probably would've made more on the open market but the length is questionable.

Ask Saad? Haha. Good chance Chicago still wins that trade with Dano and Anisimov. But you're a Flyer fan so have no idea what good hockey business is.

How dare you. The Flyers signed Bryz to that sweetheart of a deal to a goalie of his caliber. That screams good hockey business sense

Don't say anything remotely neutral about the signing, leonkennedy will swoop in and poop on all of us.

Don't include yourself with everyone else because of the obvious flaw in your logic. There were so many excellent posts on the subject before yours.

leon, I'm the biggest Hawks homer you will find, but you need to correct your avatar - it's 3 Cups in 6 years, not 5 years.

You're right. So that's why the consensus is that the term was perfect.

He didn't personally say Crawford was trash, way to jump on it and attack the flyers though. Your attitude suggests you've been a Blackhawks fan for about 6 years

There is term risk, sure, but the market dictated giving him this deal. We can talk about the potential problems in 2022, but are they worse than the problems next year if he were to walk after the current deal ends, and the turmoil that would have happened in the now had everyone spent this year wondering what happens next summer?

What does that have to do with your stating the obvious about a player being awarded a contract based on "what he has done"?

I hope you think this is a cute technicality thing and don't actually think the Hawks won 3 Cups in 5 seasons. To remind you, Boston won in 2011 and LA won in 2012 and 2014 - so that is 3 Cups that were won by other teams in between the 2010 Cup and the 2015 Cup.

Yes, technically it's 3 Cups in (5) 365 day periods - but it's 3 Cups in 6 seasons/years.

Yeah i never said he did. Glad you are keeping up bub. You're failure to understand the context, suggests the arrogance that can be expected from a Habs fan from Que.

Hence why it say 3 cups in 5 years, not seasons. Thank you for pointing out the common sense of statement in such exquisite detail.
