Yup, everyone sees it but Vinny
Sad - BiggE
I'm fine with it if they have to carry him all year as a scratch, you know? He's under contract. They can't just cut him, all the other things we know. Their hands are tied
But they just cannot be thinking about playing him. That's just too much to comprehend, and really, that would only be hurting the team
You'd have to give him every single O-zone start imaginable, which means Couturier and Bellemare's lines are right back where they were last year. Every single tough matchup, every single d-zone draw, goes to them
For this team to move forward, you just can't play him. You just can't

Man, I don't even know what to think about the Eagles
Chip Kelly...man, I don't know. They won, and that is great. Maybe a win clears out some of the stench, eases some of the pressure that they had to be feeling
But damn. Something just doesn't smell right, and I don't even know what to think
But at least they won today, are giving themselves a chance to get out of this mess |

I'm stunned it's gone on this long -- I mean, seriously. I have no love for Schenn, but damn. Come on. Move him to the middle (where he should've been to start camp) and get on with trying to win hockey games from Day 1
They owe Wheels cash and a roster spot, and that spot can be as a scratch. Nothing else

I'm still somewhat amazed that a team with caproom to burn hasn't just come along and said "you know what, give us Vinny and a 2nd or 3rd. We'll give you a 7th."
I know. I know. You never give away draft picks but you know what, I'd drop one pick outside the top 40 to be out of this mess without retaining any salary. |

He should of been given a chance at center but in hasktol system I truly believe Laughton at center nd Schenn at right wing could be really good. Throw umberger on left wing and I actually believe it could be a highly productive 2 way line |

I truly do understand the concept of giving everyone a chance, but damn. This team could so use a good start to the season -- just a good, solid start.
The defense is pretty experienced, Mason's coming off a good season. You've got a legit L1 and a really solid L4. A lethal PP1 and the PK got it together in the second half of last season.
But this team cannot be held hostage by Wheels. You have to give Couturier the opportunity to be a legit 2C, and that means giving him the kind of starts that a player in that role gets. Doesn't mean he can't kill penalties, doesn't mean he'll never start in his own zone. But you have to do what's right, here -- some combination of Schenn/Umberger/Laughton should be enough, in conjunction with Bellemare's line, to fake it in the defensive zone for much of the regular-season games
But trying to play Wheels, especially if you're trying to play Gagner too -- I mean, come on. Come on. That's just ridiculous to even type

Vinny is playing with his career on the line essentially. He'd better be giving it 100% every shift. If not thats even more troublesome. - hereticpride
If he was giving 100% in the last pre season game, he wasn't a factor against a minor league lineup. What could be more troubling than that? |

From ek's blog:
Older players with big contracts and plenty to prove, who are still fighting
Vinny Lacavalier
VLC has looked absolutely great in camp and the preseason. He is the perfect example of professionalism and he spent this summer working harder than he ever has before…But that wasn’t all that was wrong with Vinny’s game last year. Much more had to do with the fact that finely tuned skilled players NEED to play with skilled players and Craig Berube placed Vinny on the fourth line last year…when he played him at all. This camp he has been often paired with Sam Gagner and the combo has been thrilling to watch to say the least.

I'd start Gagner at 3LW, Umberger at 4LW, but with Umberger getting used on the 3rd line for DZ faceoffs. |

I know. if the flyers are honest there is nothing vinny has done this preseason to warrant a roster spot. Man I really wanted him bought out. I wonder if they would have done so if they knew Umberger would be looking this good.

Interesting. My reply to Ek would be what games has he been watching? In the pre season games I've watched, I could hardly tell either player was even playing, so those comments are puzzling. Also Lecavalier wasn't simply placed on the fourth line. His level of play is what got him demoted and eventually scratched.
