First off, I am not supposing that Hutton has outplayed Corrado to this point and is taking his job. I haven't watched the pre-season games, I'm just reading the press clippings. I'm also not talking about *feelings* I'm talking about opportunity and cold hard cash. There is a significant difference between an AHL and NHL salary.

If an employer gives feedback to an employee about their performance, indicating that if they meet certain goals then a promotion will be in order. If that employee meets and/or exceeds those objectives and then the employer says "you know what, you are more valuable to us in the mail room, and I don't really want to lose bob up in accounting, even though you are actually doing a better job then him" what does that say to this particular employee, and other potential employees down the road?

Hutton is 22 (the same age as Corrado), and signed an SPC with the Canucks this year after his college season was over. I'm sure part of his decision to sign this year, instead of returning for his senior year, was based on potential opportunity. In the AHL, he will earn $70k per year, not a bad number of a 22 year old. In the NHL, he will earn almost $900k. Given how short an average professional athlete's career is, I'd be pretty pissed off if my employer took away a year of making almost 7 figures. If Hutton had decided to finish school instead of signing his SPC this past summer, when next summer rolled around we may very well have been giving Benning the gears, because Hutton decided not to sign with Vancouver, and become an UFA.

I have zero issues with Hansen, he's a solid 3rd liner. Again, when he does slump offensively like any normal 3rd liner it's more magnified on this team because there's no legit 2nd line.
