Vey should be waived, even Cracknell looks better than him. McCann, Gaunce..I don't think there's a guy who can play center that's left on the roster who isn't a better option.
- Nucker101

I don't see Vey as an effective center at all. He's like a Mason Raymond lite, but not nearly as good defensively.

Fully agree.
- Nucker101

What bugs me is that he must know that his job is on the line, and yet he's still invisible. I was hoping he'd get a shot with some legit skilled forwards and I was happy when he did, but he did absolutely nothing with it. I understand that it's an extremely small sample size but that's the reality of preseason hockey. For tweeners like Vey, a career can be built or destroyed in the preseason. Meanwhile, less experienced kids playing with less experienced kids are making the most of their opportunities.

Had no hopes for Vey, but I'm a bit dissapointed in Sven. Throught he was better last year
- pker2theend

I dunno, kid has great wheels and play-making ability. Certainly more skilled then Vey.
Playing with the likes of Dorsett, Hansen, Prust, Cracknell and Hansen hasn't helped his cause.

I seem to remember one pre-season game when he was with Horvat and Vrbatta i believe. No points from that line but it looked good nonetheless.

That's pretty spot on...and sad. He seems like a nice guy, but it's time to move on. Maybe he can help Utica make another cup run if he clears and even earn a call-up if he lights it up in the AHL.

It's a couple preseason games lol

Let's give Vey 15 games before we waive him for nothing.

- CanuckDon

This. The entire pre-season is a mirage. Player motivation and compete levels are all over the place.

Regular season starts next Wednesday. I'll wait for the first dozen games to observe what we really have.

He's playing for a job/career/money, his compete level should be at 110%.

This is not a statement against Sutter and I know Nucker will make a comment about price of a 4 th line and question talent . This is a good problem as Whisky Tango said this morning . Our kids have surprised us.

Sedin Sedin Burrows
Gaunce Horvat Vrbata
Sven McCann Hansen
JV Sutter Dorsett

Prust

I know it is very unlikely but it would give all lines the best options and matchups

Bad play but I think he has had a couple of good plays as well

Has has looked better than Prust, Kenins, Baertschi, I think he looks like a legit call up at some point this season.

I've liked Kenins better than him, but then again I've kinda had a soft spot for Kenins since his call-up last year. I like the bottom 6 guys who don't always make the safe, low-risk, low-reward play. The coaches don't though

Looks good

I agree Sutter is better suited with straight line players with speed. I doubt Sutter will ever earn his contract but I do expect he will be a useful player. I don't care which " line " he is on but I hope they don't keep trying to make him an offensive player.

I agree if we are basing it off Kenins play last year but in regards to preseason he has been pretty meh.

Sure, but can the same be said for all of his opponents and teammates? Of course not. The pre-season is a well known non-indicator of regular season performance - for players and teams.

Fair point, but even his own linemates have out-shined him IMO

As long as this lineup written on the lineup card I don't care how much drool is on it.

And the long list of excuses from Oilers fans begins to be set in stone

I will say that having no expectations concerning my team is somewhat liberating for a change.

Don't get me wrong, I think Vey is mediocre. But that's based on his performance last year with all the many choice chances given to him by the coaching staff, not on this pre-season.

If he does carry this form into the regular season we should be looking for the exits with this guy.

The problem is that you may have to send those better options back to junior and they won't be options as a Plan B if Vey sucks. Gaunce might make the team anyway, even if Vey stays.
