Are you saying that 29 other GM's would waive these two players, and then claim them back again? I think what you mean to say is "...waive them and get nothing once they are claimed"

If it's a certainty that those players would be claimed off waivers, then the smart GM would not expose them to waivers, so what you have said, inadvertently, is that Benning is smarter then all 29 other GM's.

I'm saying no other team would trade for these guys if they have any interest ...they would wait for the Canucks to waive them before offering up anything

All this Corrado on waivers talk is going to hurt his Team Canada aspirations.

Not to mention his feelings.

Oh, I see, but Benning would give up a 2nd round pick to acquire them, even though he already has them on his roster. Got it!

You sure? I really think he's still overrated by some of our fans. The guy hasn't been a standout in the AHL after multiple seasons, has been outplayed during pre-season by younger guys.

I can maybe see a bottom feeder picking him up to use him as a 6/7 dman but that's about it. If I had to bet money on it, I'd say he clears.

Max Friberg is a flat out better prospect at this point(I'll admit that he plays at a less valuable position) and he cleared waivers.

- Nucker101

There is no way he clears.

Douglas Murray was given a tryout by the Flames. Douglas Murray. I think that says it all for how desperate teams are for D-men.

Maybe, maybe not. You're probably right, there's probably at least one team where Corrado would be an upgrade to the top 8, but if he hasn't played well enough to earn a spot here do you send Hutton down so you don't lose Corrado? What does that say about an organization if you punish a player for playing too well because it is convenient for you to send him to the minors?
- 1970vintage

Yes. Send Hutton down to play 25 minutes a game and sit Corrado in the press box until he works hard enough to earn some ice time. Call Hutton up when injuries inevitably strike.

Would Edmonton take a flyer on Corrado if given a chance??

As per the organisation question, I wouldn't be too upset if they send Hutton down and recall him as soon as the inevitable injuries pile up on the back end.
Easy conversation to have with him and say, you've impressed us, continue doing well in Utica and we'll have you back asap.

Benefit to sending Hutton down is that he can play top line minutes there to get used to pro faster.

Corrado was arguably the best D for the Comets in the playoffs. He had a short summer so did others. He probably never even touched the ice all summer. I tend to give them some leeway this early on and expect the McCann's and Huttons to push.

I would assume its a given he goes down. He needs minutes big time. NCAA doesn't give him the games that the CHL would have.

Benning is the only one who would make those deals. Unfortunately, you can't trade with yourself.

Wrong

Plenty of scrub forwards got tryouts to. Corrado has nothing to like about him except his jr play and age. He's shown no upside over the past 1-2 years.

Even if he gets claimed, it's not much of a loss. Pedan/Fedun/Biega aren't much of a downgrade as call ups which sucks to say because Corrado looked so promising during his first pro stint.

Hutton deserves it.

That makes no sense. Keeping him up would get him to the pros already

He is not ready for the rigours of an NHL schedule. Imho.

Corrado would get snatched up in a heartbeat on waivers. If there's no room for him you trade him.
- KB3Point0

Put Weber on waivers instead his salary is 1.5

My only argument to this is you don't give up on a 22 yr old and he would be claimed.

He may wear out, but you can always send him down then or sit him once in awhile to rest.

Not every college player has worse stamina than every CHL/AHL player. Some guys are just built better than others.

Watch who other teams waive once cut downs to 23 are done. Guarantee you that they'll be a couple of comparable dmen. We overvalue our not-so-good prospects and depth players.

Smart idea. Not opposed at all. I had a serious hate on for Weber at the beginning of last season and really didn't want sign him this summer. Probably the best case scenario.

I said earlier I tend to give my best AHL defence man some leeway after a short summer. Its not about overvaluing anyone.

Trust me. I had Corrado penciled in as the #6 guy but Bartkowski/Hutton look so much better.

I agree Corrado was good last season in the run, although Sanguietti was head and shoulders the best defender. He deserves a shot in the NHL based upon his last few years of good work.

Does anyone really think Hutton's feelings will be hurt if he is sent down?

Guys, Vey's feelings are going to be hurt if he loses his job to a rookie.

Finally, someone who knows what Vey's job is. Explain please...
