Bo often had his minutes cut back late in the game or didn't see ice time in the 3rd, this wasn't uncommon during the first half of last season.
It was a close, tight game. WD is not giving the rooks anything, they are going to be sheltered to some extent, had to expect that after last season. - hillbillydeluxe
The difference is that last year we only had one rookie, so if he gets benched or his ice cut back you can spread those minutes around without over taxing anyone. When you're benching 2-3 guys at the same time it's much harder to spread those minutes around. |

True.
I went back to check toi after I posted, all three of McCann, Baertschi and JV only saw 8 mins or less of ice time. Really they should be out there for about 10 minutes. Prust and Dorsett played a little too much...
But I don't mind if they sit a bit... have to wait and see if it is a trend or just WD seeing something and making adjustments. |

It's wrong…because…it makes it very difficult to spread minutes around and it makes line matching hard to do even when you've got last change.
Derek Dorsett played more minutes in the third than Daniel Sedin did because Willie sat the three kids….it won't work he continues to do this.
There isn't enough quality depth in the bottom six to sit three players for a third period. |

Hard to play when you keep looking over your shoulder. Make a mistake and you sit on the bench. WD has no trust in the kids even though they are one third of the offense ( Sven JV Bo JM) |

I was looking for them on the ice too...
But I don't think we have had too many games where all 3 played.
Watching some of the games this year, I don't know if it is by design, but the line changes seem like they are only half complete or WD wants to see how different guys play together. Sometimes it seems like a winger from one line stays out there longer after his line mates have gone to the bench even though there is opportunity to change.
I am not sure if we don't have the depth, many teams shorten the bench in the 3rd period, and just role 3 lines. But the way it looked was we had a 1st, 3rd and 4th line out there for the last period.
But you know what Lefty, I agree with you. I didn't really like it, hope we don't see it play out the same for many more games.
If we won the game, it would have been a minor irritation, but since we lost, it seems like a missed opportunity, just like the other missed chances in the game. |

From TSN article on last nights Ducks game....
Kevin Bieksa - While he had 50% possession against Nashville, the puck ended up in the Anaheim net four times, all at even strength, when Bieksa was on the ice.

You're kicking my ass in the pool this week! Last night was the first night I had a good amount of players in and they all sucked…plus I haven't had a goaltender start yet.
But there's three days left |

That has to be the worst trade in the 3 years of the hockey pool . I am taking into account even the time Fosco fire saled his team.
Wesley got raped , made luch for KB3 and got raped again . Just a brutal trade |

I actually dont mind Dorsett being out there as much as he is. Regardless of his salary I think he is pretty effective, but I think Botchford got it right when he said they were playing to not lose. Dorsett is ideal for holding the game at the same score, the kids are the high risk-high reward and it looks like WD is taking the "safe" play of getting points where he can |

I'm not taking it seriously anymore, it's off the rails. We need to get rid of a bunch of teams and do a redraft. The keeper thing is not working out. Guys are trading studs for prospects who won't produce for 5 years. |

The PITB guy, Mooney (stats/corsi guy) I think, was on there this morning pushing for Hansen to be reunited with the twins.. - hillbillydeluxe
Hansen should play with burrows and Sutter, that's his spot and only spot. |

It's stupid. The waiver wire has guys available that are 1% owned in yahoos leagues. The format needs to be changed, and nucker needs to be fired and his team dismantled. |

There are still top line players for teams on the waiver wire.... it isn't that bad. Trading your top players for 3 or 4 waiver wire pick ups with potential is the stupid part. How do you think nucker got all those players.... it is the reason fosco quit..... you do not trade your top players for 3 worse players.

I don't understand why someone would make those trades and then the rest of the pool putting their head in the sand and saying if he wanted to make the trade it's a fair deal. The veto feature is supposed to be used to prevent lopsided trades, like the last 3 made.
I just offered nucker bernier and Ryan for varlomov. He came back saying he doesn't want Ryan but will take bernier for varlomov.
Messed up. |

I condoned that combo before the season....it's a very fast line.
Makes you ponder though...is it better to have a speed line or spread the speed across the lines? |

It's tough. As much as I love the kids in the lineup no one has really shown consistency except Hutton. Sven is struggling with strength in the bigs and McCann had defensive issues. JV throws the crushing hits but needs to find a stride. Bo will come around but WD just can't bury Bo on the 4th line whenever he screws up...that aint gonna work long term. Like you said make a mistake and your on the 4th line or sitting. If we are gonna play the kids we have to let them play through their mistakes or there is no point keeping them up. I hope WD comes around on this cause this constant line juggling and benching is absolutely gonna kill us. And we suck enough badly at home already. If I was a fan in Rogers Arena last night I'd be pretty choked that we have found no way to close out a home game as of yet. I like WD...but he has to solidify the lines soon and leave them that way for a bit. |

People want this many kids in the line up,,, get used to shortened benches, lopsided ice time and stretches of unproductive play.
If this team was a bottom dweller in total rebuild it would be different. It's not... the coach trusts and relies on vets to win.
I honestly havent seen anything impressive out of the kids lately except for Hutton. McCann gets a couple of chances and JV throws a couple of hits but I think these kids havent earned a a lot of ice time to be honest.... and are slipping a bit I'll add.
Sven is the biggest disappointment so far out of the young guns. |
