I can't believe they are entertaining sending McCann back to Jr. Aside from Hutton, he has been our most noticeable rookie. It's looking like CAL robbed us on Sven... Vey 2.0

As an aside, it looks like Ryan Johansen is Torts' first whipping boy in Columbus.

He was benched in the third period in favour of ex-Ranger Brandon Dubinsky as the Jackets fell 3-2 to Minnesota last night.

I think a point that is being missed is that for these 9 games... it's not about long term development yet... Willie needs to see if they can afford to develop these guys for the rest of the season first. People are worried about the learning curve... it's putting the cart before the horse. They havent even decided if they are going to keep these guys up... they have choices in Utica that are ready for a shot as well. Gaunce and Shink deserve a chance soon too...

I don't see these kids being handled wrong. It's pretty standard stuff. Protected minutes, bench shortening late in a game... sitting after mistakes... very few rookies don't go through this stage in their first handful of games.

We need the kids to make the team before we worry about benching them in the 3rd hurting their performance years down the road.

To be honest, I think it was fairly clear to see that Sven was a longshot

Sven, Vey, Clendenning were always going to be long shots but the argument, right or wrong, was that it was a more likely long shot than the picks/ prospects that he gave up for them.

I still think it is too early to call Vey and Clendening complete busts but they are still far away from being legit NHLers. Baertschi I think is a better player and does have a better chance but at the end of the day he has a clock ticking above him as well.

You also have to factor in salary decisions. Won't McCann, Virtanen and Hutton need new (bridge) deals at the same time. Not the best to have that happen j would imagine.

You would think that would be a bigger problem for a team like Edmonton...

Looking at the roster, we have guys with expiring contracts when the youth have their elc's expiring...

I don't mind these problems, if a kid is in a position to demand big bucks, you have an asset with some value there, trade the kid for more pics, prospects or move an older player to make room.

Gotta go with Hutton being the most noticeable with McCann a close second. JV has been 'real good' but not like Hutton and McCann. Sven has been invisible. I'm actually ok if they send McCann back. He needs to add bulk and if we keep him up at this weight I have a feeling he's going to get hurt...badly. I'd like to see McCann stay but it may be in his best interests to get sent back. Virtanen can handle the big heavy game of the west as Horvat did last year...just don't expect the same out of Virtanen. Sven (it appears) might be a bust but more time is needed there IMO. But Hutton has stood out. Doesn't look out of place at all and is logging big minutes. Only a matter of time before he starts to get on the scoresheet consistently.

Hutton getting points depends on much more than him. Our PP needs to get going and some scoring would be nice from his team mates while he's out there.

I don't see the coach pulling him out of the line up any time soon thats for sure. He blows Weber away defensively.... coaches love that.

This brings up something interesting though... Weber may be small and soft etc but I do think he is missed on the PP. That is a sacrifice worth mentioning I think.

The Canucks were unable to file a proper appeal, because Beatle John's tears kept soaking the paper, so they couldn't feed it into the fax machine.

I called that one when Torts was hired.

Saad and Hartnell will be Torts guys and Johansen will be the red-headed stepson.

Johansen will either respond and light it up, or he will be traded by the deadline. Dubinsky is an interesting case, either he shines after him and Torts hug it out, or he joins Johansen on the trade block.

Him and his crew asl, bieksa 3 and brown noser Cuban think they'll chase me out of this forum with their animosity, but you're right it's grade school stuff.

I probably shouldn't respond to their crap frankly speaking.

I'm sure more people would post here if the conversation were more elevated. Don't really see that kind of ignorance in the hawks thread where I was posting quite a bit over the summer or in the habs thread from what I've seen.
