Tim Chiasson: San Jose Sharks: Thoughts On Martin Jones and the First Month
Play better. Just do it, check-mark. - Tim Chiasson
I will keep saying it, trade for another stay at home guy and get rid of that embarassing bottom pair. Dillon just sucks ass in his own zone. Burns needs to stop tripping over himself and letting walk in goals.
Third and fourth forward groups need a change as well, I think these upgrades make us alot better. I would love to get the Melk man back, that would help push out a scrub. |

Jones will be fine. Not worried in the least. Hes basically Quick 2.0, good with me. |

The team has not been supporting Jones at all of late. The Columbus game is a perfect example. Jones stood on his head for the first and a bunch of the second. With the exceptions of Pavs and Joel Ward, everybody else looked liked they were skating in mud! I thought we should have been down at least 3-0 after the 1st. I was hoping it was going to be one of those games Jones was going to steal. You have to have a couple of those every season if you think of yourselves as playoff worthy.
For the first four games of the season, they played the exact same game that Columbus brought last night. All over everybody, multiple people down in the "dirty area"at the goal mouth. Even Hertl was down in that area back then. And I'm not knocking Hertl, but there was a "swarm" attitude at both ends of the ice from EVERYBODY that I haven't seen from them since. Losing Couture had damn well better not be the big reason for the slide or we're in for a REAL long season as fans. |

Yeah the game was ours to take back and Jones kept us in but the breakdowns left him out to dry a few times. We need more aggressive crease clearing not campers. I have noticed Hertl getting to the net alot this year, maybe not last game but most games, I like where he is headed. I wish DW would make a move or two to strengthen the blue line and or get us a quality bottom sixer. We have plenty of trade-able assets. Lets see what happens... |

Is it me or does it look like Jumbos passing game has regressed this year? Just not looking that crisp. Hope he gets it back together. |

I am left wondering if Father Time is indeed catching up with him. His absolute lack of effort to keep the puck in the zone on the pp was flipping hideous. I know he was at the end of his shift, but he looked like he just didn't give a s%#t |

Pete did fine with some Devil's youth. The problem is he would develop a guy like Severson and screw up guys like Larsson and Josefson. Both of which are thriving since he left. Severson ironically has struggled a bit... But realistically DeBoer's defense is relatively complicated and ome guys just don't do well with it. Nothing wrong with trying different players. The real issue was Pete had a bit of a double standards of not holding vets accountable but benching kids for mistakes; which led to them playing very tentatively if they got back on the ice. But there were sone kids he did well with and he had a reputation of being good with kids when he was in the OHL. He certainly did wonders with David Clarkson.
What I'd be most concerned about if I was a Sharks fan is that your pretty talented team currently has a worse record then the rebuilding Devils. I'm not expecting it to stay that way, but how can that not be disappointing?

That sinking feeling I've had in the pit of my stomach since the Jones trade has yet to subside. The Sharks could become a lottery team really quickly. They are such a wild card that they could just as easily win the division though. A lot of it will come down to PDB and if he can get the most out of the players.
Biggest surprise has gotta be Ward. Biggest disappointments would be the power play, weak goaltending and our depth players proving a lot of the "Sharks have bad depth" preachers right. |

point taken, just venting a bit. Donskoi, Cap'n, & Brown (yikes) aside, the rest of the team never emerged from the locker room.
My biggest female dog about 19's game has always been the way he takes his time exiting the ice @ shifts end. If he was skating his ass off the entire shift, then sucking for air on the bench I could forgive it. |

The total special teams package has been the biggest disappointment. If this area does not improve its lotto time for the Sharks |

I debated with that as my choice, but I'm just so pissed at the third pairing. |

Yes you keep saying how you have a better record, congrats you are the winner. I baited you with that comment, I knew you would have to say something. Hes making the changes we need but unfortunately we dont have any good defensive depth to change out the scrubs. Forwards he has a bit more to work with but not much. We have two starters that will be back in Cooch and Melk man but until then we are going to suffer loses when our top two lines dont produce because the bottom roster is killing us.
Now please stop with the you have a better record stuff because its crap and wont last, this team is as good as it played the first 4 games. It will come back, this team wont be playoff ready unless a few important changes are made. Being concerned less than a quarter through the season is ridiculous, we missed the playoffs once in 10 years and it wont happen this year... |

Yup! They're relying way too much on Martin and Vlasic. The rest of the "d" just isn't gettin' it done.. I'm wondering why DW hasn't looked at Tim Gleason. Seems like a good fit for the team |
