why was he in the press box ? that was the usually thing in buffalo - gerbe75pts
Thats the Roy treatment. He wants him to learn by watching from the Press Box. He did that with Barrie. Did the healthy scratching, sending him to the AHL. Its all in an effort for them to learn, develop, and rise up to the challenge.
even though hes still better than 1/2 of the D core currently and I hate him being scratched but its an effort for him to fully develop.
No different than Roy with Bigras who was a stand out at Camp. He really believes in his prize prospects playing at least a 100 AHL games before heading to the big club (Sakic and Roy mentioned Hawks pre dynasty and currently Tampa who followed that model and are primed now bc of it), and if they come up before that, its bc they are making a mockery of that league and are ready for the show.
The latest rounds of interviews that BSN Denver did with the Avs with both Grigo and Zads were very interesting. I am not a Roy fan as a coach but from their interviews you can tell they are. Both said they really believe in him as a coach and if they play 8 mins a night, 12 mins a night, Roy has a plan for them and they believe in him.
Granted I think Roy is over his head but players really do believe in him. The ultimate player motivator but man does he deploy some god awful systems |

Yes and no. I always knew ROR was a very special player and he brought a lot to the table. And honestly I would do that trade a 100 out of 100 But he does have his limits offensively. He might have that 70pt + season once or twice but its not his long term projection. I was a nordique fan before and this is the painful trade they needed to make such as when they traded away Owen Nolan back in the day, That trade brought the Avs the cup by getting Ozolinch
McKinnon is that player to be the 7m+ face of the franchise, who has been such a beast this year. Avs will never be the full spend to the cap every year team, so they couldn't afford to pay ROR without purging the roster of Duchene+ so they can afford to sign EJ, barrie and MacKinnon.
Biggest issue with the Avs they had nothing of a prospect pipeline before that trade. Embarrassing really but adding Compher, AJ Greer, and that 2016 2nd round pick as well as Grigo, and Zads. It really adding a lot of young 21-22 and under talent to the club. They desperately needed that.
The prospect pipeline was a huge issue for me, if you look around the league for teams that one cups and are playoff contenders year in and year out, they don't dip into the trade market and UFA market as much, they have young guys plugging into their Bottom 6 and Bottom pairing Dmen year in and year out to keep that cycle going. The Jets farm system is my dream for the Avs. They don't need superstars, they just have so much depth it makes that team so hard to play against. |

Hes an amazing player but its just was situation that was going to be toxic for the Avs since they botched it early on and didn't recognize his talent after his ELC. With his personality it seemed like there was no recovery after that
He wanted a long term deal similar to Landeskog (7 years at 5-5.5m) and they tried to force a bridge deal on him,
If they would have believed in him early on,its not an issue, As I look at it now, they found gold in the 2nd round in the first year of their rebuild. Since they have botched other drafts since, its almost a reloading of the deck by getting the haul that they did for him.
However since Roy has taken over, man has he drafted well. That 2013 draft for the Avs is killer. |

Avs got Meloche at 40 with their own pick, such a steal in 2015. Could have been a late 1st round pick in other years. Honestly that 2015 draft is going to be the face of the NHL in 3-4 years when you look back at it, so much talent.
People rip on the Bruins for their top picks, but man they loaded up on such high risk high reward talent. They could be set for a very long time if they even hit 1/2 of their picks.
Zboril, Carlo & Forsbacka-Karlsson is a big big haul, Senyshyn & DeBrusk if they don't pan out, those 3 will make them forget about it all |

not till later into the season, jan-feb if I remember. which is probably the best case scenario since the team is struggling to figure out its identity. Haha a ROR beat down early on in the season would bruise the fragile Avs fan base even more |

Guaranteed they will be, Roy knows how much those games mean to players. Grigs will impress, i am shocked at how solid he is defensively.
Thats what they talked about in that interview I mentioned earlier. He wants to be a 2 way player and mentions that Roy wanted him to work on his compete level and defensive side. Hes really responded and wants to earn that ice time. Really believes in the plan that Roy has for him, if he plays 5mins or 14mins a night, he mentioned he knows its part of the plan Roy wants for him and just happy to be part of a teams plan. |

I think he is, so is Zads (who is scratched again tonight after a rough game last night).
Its just impatient frustrated fans who can't see how fair the deal is. Sabres got the Best player now and maybe in general int the deal, but the Avs got solid players who are a few years out. Give its 2-3 years and both those Ruskies will be solid staples on this team.
Also MacKinnon is soooooooo dreamy back at C thats why it makes the ROR trade easier. Dutch is 2C and Mack is such a beast at a 1C. He really is a legit superstar
https://pbs.twimg.com/twe...video/CTLNzGSWEAAmanU.mp4 First goal of tonight...very quiet over a ppg pace for him |

not officially, they aren't a poor team. Kroenke is one of the richest guys in World. (owns the Avs, Nuggets, the MLS and Lacrosse Denver teams, St Louis Rams, and 80% Football Arsenal plus wife is a walmart heiress)
If the money to spend on the team is there, they will. But in his sports empire, Avs are not the top dog. Arsenal FC and moving the Rams to LA are his big projects right now. If they start to push playoff births, the pockets will open up more |

they really don't deal with it either, but they don't spend money foolishly. Last year there were up against the cap, this year not even close since I assume they realize they were many pieces away from a complete team so need to free up cap to help fill those holes now and in the future |
