Thats not fair. He conceded Amac was overpaid.......by 500k
- Just5

A slightly overpaid 4/5 defenseman that no team in the league wanted to acquire for 0 assets (sans cap space).

Isn't it amazing that when Streit was placed on LTIR and they had the cap space available, they still didn't recall Amac. What a complete waste. Holmgren has set this franchise back 5 years with the Amacs, Lecavaliers, and other awful transactions.

Sorry, I'm in the minority here, I'm not excepting the dead weight contracts & no cap space crap.
This team has tons of money, Lecavalier is bought out as a start.
Bam, there's $3m in space just as a start.
If your not playing, and not good enough, your gone, done.
Because he has zero pressure to win, (Hextall), is why this guy, and a few others are still here.
Seriously, when's the last time you saw them playing this poorly, and NOTHING from Snider?

- puckhead17

It is a different era. There are cap implications to "just getting rid of guys" it is a process that takes time due to the hole they were put into. If you dont want to wait for it then fine, go be a Dallas Stars fan. How much money the team has is completely irrelevant to the salary cap.

Hextall has just as much pressure to win as the GMs before him, but everyone understands that what they were doing does not work anymore and this is how it needs to be fixed

AMacs, due to the length of the deal, is the worst of the bunch. Umberger is gone after next year and Vinny has only 2 years left, and perhaps only 1 or fewer if he ever realizes he just can't play anymore.

AMac, though, jeez what a mess. Four more years after this one, 5 million per. Thanks Homer.

yup recovering from an acl, an injury which often times takes athletes a year or two to fully recover from was the answer. Somebody get on the phone with McCrossin....

fyi actual experience trumps any little articles u or anybody here can come up with

- JoeRussomanno

Once again, your ignorance about the recovery periods for ACL injuries suffered by hockey players is showing. Morgan Rielly tore his ACL in November of 2011 and came back to play in April 2012.

http://news.nationalpost....der-of-the-blue-and-white

Ghost being able to work out and put on weight during the same type of timeframe is actually a slower recover than Rielly managed. And yet you can't believe it was possible, despite the documented evidence of his weight gain from the training camp rosters and his former head coach.

Vinnys is the worst due to the NMC. His contract is the most cumbersome right now. The Flyers can work around the money more than they can the roster spot

Evgeny Malkin tore his ACL in 2011 and came back and won MVP next season. Hockey players have the most success with ACL recovery as well

Flyers have a few issues to work out, but with the current state of the team, projected time tables of how the team is going to transform, they're in pretty good shape cap wise. The turnover of the roster will start at some point, it's just a question of when.

How they handle the MacDonald situation is the only thing I'm concerned about.

No I understand what, and why he's doing what he's doing.
But all GMs do not have the luxury he's afforded, sorry I don't agree with that.
We've heard Snider before female dog and yell about his product looking really bad, whoever was at the helm had to do something.
Doesn't make someone more, or less of a fan for enjoying losses, and talking about the draft lottery. If you enjoy this then become an Oilers fan.
They are the lowest scoring team in the league, and Snider said what?
Yeah, he's got pressure to win now, sure he does.

Rosters change, do they not?
- MJL

They sure do...and team's younger players need to be resigned, while valuable free agents can be signed for less than Reads cap hit as well.

I didn't say it was impossible to trade him, I just don't think he is as valuable to another team and worth the assets to acquire him (aka as easy to trade) as you and others make him seem

Vinny's is bad, but he's only here for a max. 2 more years. AMac has 4 more years on his. Sure, they can waive him and save roughly $500K more that they can due to Vinny's NMC, but after Vinny and Umberger are gone, AMac will still be around to haunt us.

I don't know, I'm sure Snider is on board. I don't think they'd accept a tank, they want to remain as competitive as possible without giving up any of the future. Look at the model in LA, fans were calling for Lombardi's head, and lost patience. That's going to happen here, and fans will be calling for both Hextall and Hakstol's head before too long. They talk about patience, but that's all. We're seeing that already with all the talk about bringing up the kids.

AMac can be buried in the AHL for a savings of 950k...which is enough to bring up any defenseman on an entry level deal. Vinny cannot be moved anywhere for any savings (besides being bought out and ignoring a trade which seems incredibly unlikely).

If you want to feel better try this...pretend the flyers are paying AMac 950k and Ghost 5 million

He'd certainly be easier to trade if he was on the last year of his contract, as that would expand the market for him, but Read is a very good 3rd line player, that a good team could use. Plays a strong 2 way game and can skate.

Who the hell knows what's going on with the defense when the guy Hextall went out and paid $3m for as a free agent is continually sitting as a healthy scratch while the make-a-wish-kid Manning plays almost every night.
