Laughts willed himself back from what looked to be a horrible injury just so Vinny wouldn't see the ice.
The question now is: does Gagner have it within him to do the same?

I watched that play 10 times
I still have no clue what caught Ganger. |

I just hope he didn't suffer a concussion on top of whatever was bleeding...broken nose? You can play with that.
There is seriously a hex on that third line. |

Overall another good effort. First period was a slight Flyers edge; second was dominant and not just in goal scoring; third was probably score effects and a desperate team trying to cling to the win with a desperate team trying to claw back.
Good to see PP was doing well. And the second unit too. Coots switched from right wall to left wall, which is odd as a lefty but Gagner being out mandated it. He looked better funny enough -- was skating and seeing the ice better on his natural wing side. That's interesting, but I'm sure will just be swapped out when Gagner comes back. Shame.
Pk was solid too, beyond the shortie. But evens was still a big zero in the goals department. I still think a Coots-Jake duo is better than the combinations tonight. Except the top line: that actually could be a keeper if they want to keep Jake on his own line. I still think the lines need tweaking, and there is much to be desired. Jake skated well, but I don't see how playing with what are effectively fourth line skilled players, with max effort granted, will allow him to bury and create more chances. Coots. Jake. Star crossed linemates. |

You're right. The Hex is all encompassing and omnipresent.

That makes sense. The commentators kept mentioning a stick coming up on his face. |

I thought Leier had a very good game tonight
Ghost is awesome
good for the coach splitting up the first line
seeing Laughton back out there tonight after that hit, on Brind'amor night especially was great |

I think Bellemare can keep up with Jake, it's not ideal, but not so much with VdV

I think Pebbles can be a 3-4 tweener should he need to be moved around -- though as a package he's more a terrific 4th liner. I wasn't talking speed, of which he's got a lot, but skill and offensive ability. He's still a boards play mucker and grinder...I just don't see how Jake will suddenly catch fire on that line. Does he elevate the line? Sure. But I'd rather see him play with someone like Couturier and elevate HIS game. They'd be a two headed possession monster, and they each help gloss over the weaknesses of the other. I think it's more likely they catch fire than Jake skating all game with VDV and PEB. And it would allow the Flyers to roll two legit scoring lines. It baffles me that Haks would bypass the second line to put Jake with them. Isn't that the most logical choice? Don't have to be Spock to see that. |

Great speech by Brindy, impressive presentation as well.
When do we get to trade Streit? I know the answer is the TDL but what do we do when he comes back? Poor AMAC. |

we're never going to develop any young players by bringing them up to the big squad when they play better than the guys already there. They're going to learn bad habits, like scoring goals! Flyer defensemen don't score goals! No, Sir!
Now how is Ghost ever going to appreciate a promotion to the Cote suite like so many others before him! Hextall has lost his mind! just last year Ghost missed most of the season and right before tgat while he was up here, the consensus was he needed time to develop! Have to stay the course keep him in minors! |

Our problem is the schedule. They should set it up so we only play the 'Canes |

I get the idea behind putting Voracek with Bellemare & VandeVelde, can't see it being a long term solution. Obviously neither has the offensive ability to translate Jake's abilities into maximum production, but they do get in to the zone hard and generally create a strong forecheck.
But ideally, Couturier & Voracek end up together. |

If Winnipeg comes calling about Neuvirth now that Pavelec is gone for a couple months. Do you make a deal? Don't know if it is made into a larger deal, but they expect to make playoffs. Neuvirth is better than Pavelec IMO. |

Sarcasm aside, when a young player clearly shows he's able to play at the NHL level, obviously you keep him up if you are able.
FWIW, Gostisbehere still has warts to his game, but at this point, he's probably more helped by playing at the NHL level than the AHL. Most expected him to be ready by mid season, injuries rushed the time table a bit.
Doesn't mean Straka or Cousins comes in and plays great. We saw Cousins last year, after being a productive AHLer, he simply couldn't score at the NHL level. |
