It was a deserved response to "There are 30 teams in the NHL"

Christ, Derek Mathers can't even crack an ECHL lineup. At least we didn't waste a 3rd rounder on him a la Garrett Klotz.

No, you'd have to post on at least half of the NHL's boards to Langkow it.

If other teams really felt AMac was that reliable, he would already be gone at 1/2 price.
- Tomahawk

There's no way Hextall already offered to retain $2.5m in salary for four or five years. He's way too stingy for that.

Maybe Hextall doesnt want to retain salary until he has to, or that other teams still dont want to take on that many years of AMac. Doesnt mean that he cant in the future, when he may need to or the salary owed is smaller
- YuenglingJagr

I dunno... judging from the Hartsy trade, if Hexy wants to be rid of a contract, he doesn't seem shy about getting it done ASAP, even if it means eating money/another bad contract to get it done.

AMac just turned 29 too... so the term is long, but if he were really seen as a reliable 4-6, you'd figure some team would risk investing $2-3M until he's 34-35, right?

And I don't think there was anything worse Hexy could do to AMac's trade value than hit him w/ the stigma of being buried in the AHL -- leads me to believe that it was a last-resort kind of thing.

I don't disagree. But your point was that, despite being able to spend more freely that most teams, they have been ineptly managed. My point is that, if that's the case, would you same the same goes for the teams I mentioned who experienced similar and/or longer droughts?
- jmatchett383

Toronto and the NY Rangers have had bad management at times. Not questioning that. They are large market franchises, that haven't had much success recently.

We'll probably find that out for sure this summer when he's a free agent.

Inept Management is a huge reason why this franchise is without a Cup for 40 years with no end in sight. Financial advantage over majority of the NHL forever, and haven't been able to take advantage of it.

I agree with you, but based on him being a part of his signing, I think maybe he does think hes an NHL defenseman. Does bringing back a bad contract help at all right now? I think the bad contracts they should be targeting are the ones that expire at the end of this season. You cant really trade a guy with 4 years remaining on his contract for a guy with none.

The AHL thing will be gone if he comes back and proves he belongs. Most good teams simply dont have that much money to spend on a guy for that long without a good reason to do so, I think

In my book winning in 1994, and 2011 is better than not winning since 1975. I could be wrong though.
- PLindbergh31

It's more recent, sure, but what makes it better? Is it the recentness that makes it better? If yes, why? If no, what makes it better?

The Flyers won two in a row. I submit that's better than one and done.

1994 isn't exactly recent, anyway. The Rangers last cup is old enough to buy its own beer now. Not that our ancient cup wins bring me any solace.

I'm looking at it from my perspective. Something that doesn't happen since I've been on the planet, kind of loses some significance for me. Speaking in terms of sports.

The Cubs are much better franchise than the Marlins right? Those back to back titles in 1907 and 1908 are much better than the Marlins winning two in 1997 and 2003 isn't it?

Holmgren was an awful GM imo. Did he make some good transactions yes. Is the majority of his GM tenure based on beating the Rags in a shootout? You bet it is.

Hextall is still in the infancy of his tenure. Can't really judge him yet. Too small of a sample. I've liked a lot of the things he's done thus far, others not so much. Obviously fans aren't going to agree with every move a team makes.

Not sure that answers my question of how is more recent better, but whatever. I don't care that much about it to continue.

Is asking if something is more recent in terms of sports championships a serious question?

Yeah but the rangers have the most beautiful human being on their team.
