They're just not very good, bottom line. Getting rid of a few older guys will allow for some younger guys to get a chance, which I want, but it won't make them any better this year...or at least marginally. - LeftCoaster

Always a few gems in the late first or second round but gotta dig hard to find them. - LeftCoaster
I would keep an eye on Riley Tufte. There are a few reasons I have interest. He is 6'4 . He plays LW which we sorely need. He also comes from the same area as Brock Boeser in Minny . They have very good hockey programs for developing kids. He is already 210 lbs
I look at the top D and think meh. |

Yeah unless we get top pick , I would look at Left wing.
I would trade or Offer Sheet a Dman instead
Go after D in the second round |

They need a coaching change after they change the players. No new coach will have success with this motley crew. - VANTEL
I think this is where we are at right now. Personnel. There isn't going to be much more WD can do with this group that includes Hamhuis Edler Burrows Higgins Vrbata and a few others. Funny how so many on here and in the local Van media were praising WD last season for getting a non-playoff team in the playoffs. Injuries have been a killer for this team just like in the Torts year. Torts did bring in a structural coaching change and so did WD. It's the players. 3 coaches in 3 seasons means they just aren't listening/meshing or buying into the systems. They revert back to AV style not because of WD...they do it because it's safe for them and what they know. They need new young players that will listen and buy in.
And I agree on the comment that the Aquafeenias are massively to blame. Trying so hard to get a non-playoff team in the playoffs every season to satisfy a few extra mil for a few home playoff games is beyond stupid. Embrace the drafting and developing and like another poster said play like Jersey and Minny for a few seasons to keep yourself in games and get the youth developed. 3-4 seasons of dire hockey may be ahead but the reward after that will be worth it. |

You guys kill me lol
Change the coach coaching ant the problem
We wanted young players and we are getting them they need to learn the nhl game.
The only coach who should go is the defensive coach because our de is an absolute nightmare.
We're going through change we wanted it. Now we just need the young players to grow. And add a few vets to replace the twins. Give stamkos anything he wants I'm sure he won't come out west but try right age great player top line center done. |

Canucks army has an article about sending McCann to WJC and Virt to Juniors after it is over. The way the team is I agree(also sending McCann down), as WD will do anything to try and win and i can see them sitting way too often. |

I wasn't on board at first but I'm starting to come around to the idea of sending McCann to WJHC. And if they don't return for the season that's ok. McCann clearly is deserving of play but has strength issues he needs to work on at the NHL level. It's not like Horvat last year where he is already in a mans body.
It's time to give Gaunce Grenier and a few other players in Utica some time earned in the NHL. For what we have on the farm compared to Higgins/Burrows/Weber get some guys up and let's have a look. |

I actually feel bad for Miller. He stands on his head and gets no support. He needs to be on a contending team that needs goaltending. |

A Big middle finger to FA for wanting a "Hybrid Rebuild" just so he can keep his attendance records and money coming in. With full permission, I am sure Benning could have pulled some moves and would have this team a contending younger team in a year or 2 years time. Instead we have an aging core, who still compete every night, without a support cast, and all of whom deserve much better results than where this team is at currently. |

I could see him requesting a trade. SJ maybe? Jones may not be 100% ready for the minutes and I don't think they have a competent back-up. |

For Miller only? I feel bad for the Sedins.. Both in top 15 in scoring on a team with zero supporting scorers and on a team with the most losses in the NHL. |

Its funny because we have had some turnover. Presently, we have a second year player in Bo and a raw rookie in McCann as our 2nd and 3rd line centres, and Cracknell, who thought he wasn't even going to be playing in the NHL, as 4th line centre.
Sven is seeing sheltered minutes with his first real run in the NHL after short stints.
Can't expect much from Dorsett and Prust, except a bit more grit than they have shown, not expected to light it up and with the way everyone else is playing, maybe they are trying to do too much other stuff.
Higgins, same old song and dance.
Vrbata is under producing. Burrows has to do more too.
Hansen is playing well, and so are the Sedins.
Those in game nuggets last night showed the inexperience of our d corps, Weber with the 3rd most games played often looks the shakiest. I thought Bartkowski had played more games. Can't expect any more from Hutton as a rookie. Tanev and Edler have been playing well enough. Biega has been okay in a limited role too.
Hamhuis is hurt and had been struggling. Wondering what ailments he has, if he is putting off a surgery or should have had one last season?
What can WD do? My only thought is leave the Sedins together and try to load up the second line with what's left, but there isn't much after that besides Vrbata that has had a history of scoring without the Sedins...
Maybe put McCann on the 2nd unit pp instead of Higgins. not a lot of options that I can see WD considering.
Either way, we have to be patient, JB is going to give some time to try to play through it. |
