kassian and hodgson are both prime examples of flops
barker is another
kris beech

thats just off the top of my head

hmmm jensen comes to mind but im unsure what position he was drafted in

- SMBDragon

None of those are top 5, but yeah those look like busts. Jensen is a first rounder. Shroeder is another. But the top of the draft has produced.

edit Barker was a top 5 and is a bust. But I had to look a while to find one. The only others I could find are the Schenn brothers are both top 5

It was really a different time back them, the Russians weren't allowed to come over, it was a gamble like Bure.

For sure it was. I was just pointing out that it wasn't tanking that got him.

Vrbata will get a 2nd

Hammer will get a late 1st for a playoff team

Evanka osmak will get whatever she wants hubba hubba

- The_Kuze

Schenn got a 3rd, a solid prospect and a brutal contract dump.

Hamhuis is leaps and bounds better than Luke. Probably hasnt looked great cus look who is playing with weber and bartkowski. At the end of the day the market will say what the return is, if a top team has a Dman go down with an injury in the next 6 weeks you can ask a little more than what most would expect.

Absolutely...it seems lost on some folks that some teams just get bad for various reasons. A top three pick doesn't mean you've tanked, it simply means you've missed the boat somewhere along the lines in your drafting, developing, trading, UFA signings.

wow you sure drank the kool aide on that

I suppose every team that had a crap season did all deliberately huh

sure its been done in history before, but like after theyve obviously been eliminated from POs

so OK youre sold on the tank idea.... theres no getting through to you.

Someone always has to finish in last place....just because you end up there doesn't mean you did it intentionally...sometimes you're just bad.

And sometimes the GM trades away good players, for picks and prospects and the team ends up there.

That's right. So if you follow the course and stockpile prospects instead of going for a quick fix you'll usually have organizational depth by the time it comes down to drafting that elite talent.

Whatever your team is missing, you have the trade chips to acquire.

Trying to accelerate the process by moving pieces for a poor return doesn't help at all.

So when teams "suck" it's just underperformance? I think in the oilers case that's true, but what about Buffalo last year? Murray stripped that roster, same with Toronto. Chicago traded away their good vets and the just happened to "suck" enough to get Toews and Kane. Pitt same deal, they got Fleury malkin and crosby... when your trading away and not signing players as a GM and putting roster in back to back seasons that "sucks" seems to me you're tanking. Whatever you call it, I think we should trade good players for picks and prospects. not willy nilly, but rather for assets and cap space. Moves that make sense=draft picks

By following the course.

We have some decent prospects but lets not kid ourselves the cupboard isn't overflowing.

If we are naturally going to suck then we'll eventually have the opportunity to grab and elite talent.

Look....the league has been around for 100 years, yes there's documented occasions where teams have sold almost every imaginable asset, Penguins for Lemieux or Buffalo for McDavid, however, a lot of teams just suck because they haven't done well with replenishing prospects, owners refuse to spend money, etc.

There's a lot of reasons teams bottom out, actual tanking is simply just one of them. The Blackhawks started to suck when they traded Roenick, which was WAY before they drafted Toews and Kane and Keith and Seabrook.

Really I just don't want to end up like Toronto. If we are going to tank we tank properly.
