By following the course.

We have some decent prospects but lets not kid ourselves the cupboard isn't overflowing.

If we are naturally going to suck then we'll eventually have the opportunity to grab and elite talent.

Naturally sucking involves your GM not going out and signing big free agents, but rather plugs. Leafs IMO tanked last year when they traded their assets for picks and are tanking this year. If the logic is putting a losing team on the ice and trading away good players, than staying the course is tanking.

Really I just don't want to end up like Toronto. If we are going to tank we tank properly.

Do you think Colorado "tanked"? They have a lot of high picks but no one ever mentions them. Do you think Florida tanked under Tallon? Or did they simple suck because of mismanagement and ownership before he got there?

So when teams "suck" it's just underperformance? I think in the oilers case that's true, but what about Buffalo last year? Murray stripped that roster, same with Toronto. Chicago traded away their good vets and the just happened to "suck" enough to get Toews and Kane. Pitt same deal, they got Fleury malkin and crosby... when your trading away and not signing players as a GM and putting roster in back to back seasons that "sucks" seems to me you're tanking. Whatever you call it, I think we should trade good players for picks and prospects. not willy nilly, but rather for assets and cap space. Moves that make sense=draft picks

Who did Toronto strip? Franson, Santorelli, Winnik and Ollie Jokinen?

You said that if you are selling off vets for picks that is tanking. Both Col and Fla have done that

Is it mismangement or good management? Ekblad and Barkov look pretty, pretty, pretty good. Once done that they Sign Jagr.

Leafs will finish higher this year than last.

The rhetoric just doesn't fit. The only person they traded away this year (of any note) was Kessel. And everyone knows he was a cancer in the dressing room. It was addition by subtraction

The Leafs absolutely tanked last year, and management wants them to this year as well. Tanking is having a firesale of your valuable assets.

If the Canucks can bring in a decent FA next season, then go for it. I doubt they go for the "prize acquisition " though. They should just try to bring in decent help to insulate the youth or plug holes on the back end.

Tallon took over a team ripe for good picks. Benning took over a team on its last legs, this was gonna happen regardless of his best efforts to prolong their compete cycle.

For the Canucks there's just simply nothing there, no vets outside of the twins and Edler, no prospects outside of the 2013 draft onward...not much to work with.

I'd say it started by firing their coach while in a playoff position, then shipping out anything of value for a pick.

Fla . Chris Higgins to Vancouver for Oberg and a third.

Col Derek Roy to Canucks for a second.

Most smart teams trade off players when they know they are missing playoffs.

Vancouver should get on that wagon soon

We both know they would have sold more if the right deals were there. The point is they are selling, not buying. Same with the Kessel deal how many roster players? 0. If they could trade Phaneuf, the most overpaid 4th d-man in the league, they would.

Reason... He was on the ice.
