Tallon took over a team ripe for good picks. Benning took over a team on its last legs, this was gonna happen regardless of his best efforts to prolong their compete cycle.
For the Canucks there's just simply nothing there, no vets outside of the twins and Edler, no prospects outside of the 2013 draft onward...not much to work with. - LeftCoaster
i wholeheartedly agree, I just don't think that trading any of the vets we have or all them is tanking. I think that is just good management at this point as this team is far from contending. |

I'd say it started by firing their coach while in a playoff position, then shipping out anything of value for a pick. - golfingsince
The coach that's still unemployed? I think history shows that the Leafs collapsed annually, so whether they should've waited two games till they were 9th is neither here nor there. They traded guys on expiring deals. All of them had expiring deals. It's not uncommon for a team to trade role players on expiring deals away. A solid tank would've involved trading away JVR, Bozak, Gardiner, Kadri and Polak. |

You said that if you are selling off vets for picks that is tanking. Both Col and Fla have done that - VANTEL
To what extent? I'd have to go back and look but I don't remember them selling every possible asset.
The Flames sold off Glencross last year at the TDL, where they tanking....no. |

Exactly, it's just good asset management. Selling the Sedins, Edler, Tanev, Hamhuis, Vrbata etc is tanking. |

We both know they would have sold more if the right deals were there. The point is they are selling, not buying. Same with the Kessel deal how many roster players? 0. If they could trade Phaneuf, the most overpaid 4th d-man in the league, they would. - neem55
How many roster players did we get for Kessel? (I assume that's the question)
2 -Spalling and Harrington (until we got Corrado). So now 1. |

First of all our vets besides the Twins really aren't assets.
I doubt if anyone is interested in Burrows or Higgins
I think there is mild interest in Vrbata Prust Weber Bart or Hamhuis. If we sell two we will be lucky |

Kipper was retiring and Iginla was asset management, I know it's splitting hairs but it's a fine line for me. |

Kipper was a 3rd string goalie until he hit Calgary. Agreed good asset management. |

No, selling expiring contracts is good management. Daniel, Henrik, Edler and Tanev don't fit that category. |

It really depends on if those guys can help you moving forward and what kind of return you get.
A guy like Hamhuis if he'll resign is going to help much more than a late 2nd round pick. |

Mike won't play him cos he's anti tank.
I hope you guys get a 2nd for Vrbata because PAP would return a top 10 pick. |

Is that JB's fault? No he was handcuffed coming into the job with many sh!t contracts. Hamhuis and Vrbata will garner interest. Prust might possible go back to Montreal for the pick we sent with Kassian. Weber and Bart are washes. |
