Wow Anaheim....4-0 loss at home to the laffs ! Getting a lesson in tanking the hard way?
- Bullfrog77

Perry punched and then cross checked Bernier in the head.
Manson tooled Polak and then Polak broke the code and punched him after when the refs had Manson.

Holy (frank) people... are we still on the "We Have To Lose And Get A Top Pick" vs "We Have To Win And Try And Make The Playoffs" argument?

WHO CARES?

It's irrelevant whether we're trying to tank, just naturally bad or not that bad at all. You have to play the hand you're dealt and stay the course. Our UFAs are not going to command top dollar at the TDL no matter what people might think. We're going to have a situation in 6 weeks where there's going to be only 2 or 3 teams completely out of playoff contention and one of them just traded their prime asset.

I agree with Vantel, with the cap-space we'll have in the off-season we can maybe make a play for an RFA and try and put pressure on a team to trade them to us or else force them to overpay. Heck, make a play for Stamkos if the Lightning can't sign him and can't trade him.

Would a top 5 pick help? Of course, but to actually sell your assets for futures and go for that pick really is a slap in the face of Bo, Jared and Jake's faces. It's essentially telling them that they aren't good enough and never will be. Of all the Oilers 1OA picks, how does Hall feel every time they draft the "Next One" who the franchise will build around? Let's remember that before they got 1OA after 1OA they were going to build the franchise around him.

And for god's sake, WHO CARES about Toronto, we only play them twice a year and we'll never see them again this year unless a miracle happens and we both make it to the Finals. Let's agree to stop comparing our rebuild to theirs and stop with the cock measuring contests, it's getting annoying.

I'm going to have more Naked Grape... thanks for that Vantel, never was a wine drinker until you got me in the cheap stuff that I can afford.

None of those are top 5, but yeah those look like busts. Jensen is a first rounder. Shroeder is another. But the top of the draft has produced.

edit Barker was a top 5 and is a bust. But I had to look a while to find one. The only others I could find are the Schenn brothers are both top 5

- neem55

I had yakopov is that list too. He was #1....total bust

I agree with this for the most part.

Why are so many debating this so intently? People are arguing like its gonna come to a decision in reality.
Reality is we ARENT in control of what goes on in that world at all. Yet there are guys sitting on here all day arguing this redundant crap.

And yes I too cringe every time oilers call a 1OA the next one. Theyve had 5 next ones so far. Who they get this year will be the messiah too. barf barf. Not sure how burke is not managing that team....every bum he acquires in the friggin savior of the team. Worst approach you could possibly use.

What gets me the most is that people think with a top 5 pick, let alone 1OA (whether it's Matthews or whoever) we'll suddenly turn around and win a Cup. It's not like other teams are suddenly going to get worse, in fact, they're going to get better. If you want to win, you can't afford to start losing consistently, no matter how good your leadership group is it takes it's toll. It's very hard to turn around a losing culture after it gets ingrained and let's not forget how fickle the paying fans are.

People laugh at me when I say that the Canucks could easily be sold and move to Seattle, but I know for a fact, having a family member who was management at Golden Eagle Golf Course that if things aren't going well for FA, his ego blames everyone else but himself and he fired the entire staff and then sold his share. Think about that for a second, for those of you who don't know, Golden Eagle is a premiere golf course here in Pitt Meadows, but does more business than the more well-known Swan-E-Set which is just up the road from it.

If he was willing to fire the entire staff and sell off his share in a lucrative golf course because it was in a bit of a slump, how long do you think FA is going to take the Canucks being bottom feeders for the length of time it would take to get back to the top? Not to mention all the media attention the team will get in this market wanting answers as to why things aren't getting better? How many coaches and GM combos will we see during that time? We've seen that he's willing to give coaches (and GMs) golden handshakes even when they're signed long term to big money deals, how willing will he be to keep doing that? How many of the kind of coaches and GMs that are highly sought after will be willing to come here, notwithstanding the fact that we have the worst travel in the league, the most bandwagon fans, a media that does all it can to rip the team, players, coaches and GMs, and an owner who has a history of being hands-on to the point of interfering with hockey operations decisions and being a mess and near the bottom of the standings?

People seem to have short memories, it took decades for the Canucks to get good enough to compete with the elite teams and be a contender. If you take '82 out of the equation (which in my estimation was a fluke since Edmonton and Calgary were eliminated in the first round leaving the Campbell Conference wide open), it took us 2 decades, several GM and coaches (until Pat Quinn (may God rest his beautiful Irish soul)) truly say we were a contender and close to being elite. After '94 the team nosedived for another decade plus and we went through several coaches and GMs until Gillis and AV got us to '11. We're now starting the rebuild in earnest and people are already calling for Benning and WD's heads.

Now I'm going to finish my Naked Grape and get some sleep, peace out.
