Don't look now, we might actually have secondary scoring and the emergence of a top six winger.

We need to tank, plain and simple. I can agree there is a right way and a wrong way. We are obviously doing it the right way by trying to win every night and usually coming up short. Trading Hammer and Vrbata at TDL will not hurt our chances at playoffs, but not trading them will hurt the future of this organization. Trade them both, try to win, come up short and have a good set of draft picks.

you mean 2 draft picks for each? JK mate. If Benning gets 4 seconds for hammer and Vrbata, I will be sending you a box of Tim Hortons coffee in the mail.

What gets me the most is that people think with a top 5 pick, let alone 1OA (whether it's Matthews or whoever) we'll suddenly turn around and win a Cup. It's not like other teams are suddenly going to get worse, in fact, they're going to get better. If you want to win, you can't afford to start losing consistently, no matter how good your leadership group is it takes it's toll. It's very hard to turn around a losing culture after it gets ingrained and let's not forget how fickle the paying fans are.

People laugh at me when I say that the Canucks could easily be sold and move to Seattle, but I know for a fact, having a family member who was management at Golden Eagle Golf Course that if things aren't going well for FA, his ego blames everyone else but himself and he fired the entire staff and then sold his share. Think about that for a second, for those of you who don't know, Golden Eagle is a premiere golf course here in Pitt Meadows, but does more business than the more well-known Swan-E-Set which is just up the road from it.

If he was willing to fire the entire staff and sell off his share in a lucrative golf course because it was in a bit of a slump, how long do you think FA is going to take the Canucks being bottom feeders for the length of time it would take to get back to the top? Not to mention all the media attention the team will get in this market wanting answers as to why things aren't getting better? How many coaches and GM combos will we see during that time? We've seen that he's willing to give coaches (and GMs) golden handshakes even when they're signed long term to big money deals, how willing will he be to keep doing that? How many of the kind of coaches and GMs that are highly sought after will be willing to come here, notwithstanding the fact that we have the worst travel in the league, the most bandwagon fans, a media that does all it can to rip the team, players, coaches and GMs, and an owner who has a history of being hands-on to the point of interfering with hockey operations decisions and being a mess and near the bottom of the standings?

People seem to have short memories, it took decades for the Canucks to get good enough to compete with the elite teams and be a contender. If you take '82 out of the equation (which in my estimation was a fluke since Edmonton and Calgary were eliminated in the first round leaving the Campbell Conference wide open), it took us 2 decades, several GM and coaches (until Pat Quinn (may God rest his beautiful Irish soul)) truly say we were a contender and close to being elite. After '94 the team nosedived for another decade plus and we went through several coaches and GMs until Gillis and AV got us to '11. We're now starting the rebuild in earnest and people are already calling for Benning and WD's heads.

Now I'm going to finish my Naked Grape and get some sleep, peace out.

- DariusKnight

I think when you wake up and realize that the naked grape led you to believe that comparing the Canucks franchise (is in jeopardy) to a golf course "might" be somewhat of a stretch maybe you should re-think the late night - Jerry McGuire/half in the bag mission statements.

But thanks for the laughs!!!

Why are you in the Canucks thread talking about the Leafs when the Canucks are playing the Carolina Hurricanes?
- Marwood

Because that's what Leafs fans do centre of the universe and all...I guess the constant Blue Jay 2021 updates just aren't enough...

Vrbata needs to pass more, well vrbata needs to start passing, its ridiculous how self centered he is.
Him getting traded now would be best

Can you make it Hot Chocolate? I'm one of those weird people who can't stand even the smell of coffee. But it is not a stretch to say Hammer is worth what I say he is. Realisitcally the only defenseman that will be more valuable at the TDL is Buff, based on what we know of available defensemen. Even Schenn brought a 3rd and Hammer is vastly superior to him. I'm saying this as either Schenn got a 3rd and prospect and Vince was negative value or Schenn got a 3rd and Vince got a prospect.

Id agree to say Hamhuis is worth more then schenn, quite a bit more. For a rental hed get close to what Sekera got, a playoff contender paying a first round for a 4-6 defense isnt rare. Not saying its what well get but saying overvalue is a bit of a stretch.
Sekeras regardless of age got a first and a solid D prospect.

So it is over valuing to think Hammer is worth more than Schenn? Or that Buff seems to be the only available defenseman better than Hammer currently on the market? Who else is there? All the other defensemen are more of a "if they don't re-rign they may be traded". I would agree if Barrie(as an example) is on the trade block he is better than Hammer, but we don't know if he is for sure. He isn't the kind of defenseman that you just trade because it is hard to get the deal done. He is also RFA which means he may not go until the offseason. So please, tell me who is better?

People don't seem to realize that a lot of teams can only afford rentals. Many teams selling don't want to take on a contract so the other team can afford the guy the next season. It is also a pain in the arse to try to dump salary in the offseason because teams know you will eventually lower the price on what your selling, or don't want what you want to give away. Teams won't even take Higgins for free from us.

There are going to be some very disappointed fans on here come the TDL, which, of course, will lead to the screaming & crying about how much Benning sucks.
Should be fun.

I like Benning and trust his moves, all im saying is Timonen brought in a second and a fourth (which turned into another second with the SCF) with the chance that he wasnt even going to play due to blood clots.

I think most people have had decent expectations for return on the team's rentals. I think what we are seeing is the potential range, being multiple second rounders to only a third and everything in between. I think the ideas that players were all worth 1st rounders has long gone and the expectations all depend on a very strange trade market this season. I would be happy with a larger return but also any return (and open roster spot for the final 15-20 games) would also satisfy me given the way the cap/CAD has affected the league

Half of me wants to just tank for this one season, the injuries have killed us and this could give the re-whatever a jolt in the right direction. But I find myself having a hard time cheering against some of the young guys. I am a big Markstrom supporter, I have really hoped he would take the #1 job. Same with Sven, I want him to reach his potential here, JM/Bo/JV are guys I want to see get some success, so with a game last night where Markstrom was solid (some good, some bad), and the kids were playing extremely well I am very torn while watching

There will also be some fans who are surprised at what a player gets. I can agree Vrbata may only get a 2nd, but talks should start at 2nd and 3rd. But Hammer for a 3rd? what kind of idiot thinks that is all he is worth? Is it because of an injury? It was to his face, yes it will take him a few games to get back into it. But it isn't like the injury itself hinders mobility on the ice like say... a broken leg would. I would also wager that JB doesn't trade either of them and these discussions end up being pointless.
