Money makes anyone look better.
When I was in SoCal all you see are fat slobs with hot wives/girlfriends and you wonder whats going on and then you notice the $25,000 watch he's wearing and it all becomes very clear. |

I rarely back-read. Was it Walshy vs VANTEL? Walshy seems to be a permanent fixture here.
It always pleases me when leaf fan says it's a one way rivalry. Sure it is... |

Not trying to reopen a certain can of worms but just read these comments from a Canucks army article and thought it was interesting enough to share.
It certainly makes me wonder what kind of an impact Rollie has had on our goaltenders and makes me more optimistic about Markstrom's long term future.
This is from Greg Balloch of InGoal Magazine.
Eddie Lack's two best assets are his size and hands. He is a very smart goaltender, reads the play well, and as a result, knows in which situation it is appropriate to block and when he has to be reactive.
When he was having that success at the end of last season in Vancouver, he started playing a bit deeper in his crease. That was a Rollie Melanson suggestion. Playing deeper gave him even more time to read the play, and allowed him to take shorter routes around the crease. This was also a smart decision because Lack isn't a fantastic skater. He carried this over to his summer training, and kept playing deeper in his net.
The Hurricanes' goalie coach is David Marcoux, and he's more old school. He likes his goaltenders to have their knees outside of the blue paint whenever possible. A great fit for Cam Ward. Not so much for Eddie Lack.
As soon as he arrived in Carolina, they tried to adjust Lack's depth. You can't fault them for trying, but it was a bit of a disaster. Teams were simply passing around him, and he had no chance at recovering properly. His high-danger save percentage took a tremendous hit.
One simple adjustment may not seem like it would make a huge difference, but changing a goaltender's depth will have a trickle down effect. It changes everything.
Carolina's mentality is that bigger goaltenders should be more aggressive, but it's actually the complete opposite. Lack's size affords him the luxury of playing a bit deeper. Why not take advantage of that?
In December, Lack made the decision to return to the depth that he was previously having success with. If his last six games are any indication, he is back to his normal self, and the Carolina Hurricanes look pretty dangerous.
So that's all it was. Just an experiment with his depth gone wrong. He seems to be back to normal now, and is finally getting comfortable with his new team. Now all he needs is a string of starts in a row!

This is the team that gave Cam Barker a serious shot. Gormley can't be that bad. |

Why are people obsessed with Subbans feelings but show complete disregard for Virtanens? Our entire prospect pool probably has sprained feelings at the moment |

What gets me the most is that people think with a top 5 pick, let alone 1OA (whether it's Matthews or whoever) we'll suddenly turn around and win a Cup. It's not like other teams are suddenly going to get worse, in fact, they're going to get better. If you want to win, you can't afford to start losing consistently, no matter how good your leadership group is it takes it's toll. It's very hard to turn around a losing culture after it gets ingrained and let's not forget how fickle the paying fans are.
People laugh at me when I say that the Canucks could easily be sold and move to Seattle, but I know for a fact, having a family member who was management at Golden Eagle Golf Course that if things aren't going well for FA, his ego blames everyone else but himself and he fired the entire staff and then sold his share. Think about that for a second, for those of you who don't know, Golden Eagle is a premiere golf course here in Pitt Meadows, but does more business than the more well-known Swan-E-Set which is just up the road from it.
If he was willing to fire the entire staff and sell off his share in a lucrative golf course because it was in a bit of a slump, how long do you think FA is going to take the Canucks being bottom feeders for the length of time it would take to get back to the top? Not to mention all the media attention the team will get in this market wanting answers as to why things aren't getting better? How many coaches and GM combos will we see during that time? We've seen that he's willing to give coaches (and GMs) golden handshakes even when they're signed long term to big money deals, how willing will he be to keep doing that? How many of the kind of coaches and GMs that are highly sought after will be willing to come here, notwithstanding the fact that we have the worst travel in the league, the most bandwagon fans, a media that does all it can to rip the team, players, coaches and GMs, and an owner who has a history of being hands-on to the point of interfering with hockey operations decisions and being a mess and near the bottom of the standings?
People seem to have short memories, it took decades for the Canucks to get good enough to compete with the elite teams and be a contender. If you take '82 out of the equation (which in my estimation was a fluke since Edmonton and Calgary were eliminated in the first round leaving the Campbell Conference wide open), it took us 2 decades, several GM and coaches (until Pat Quinn (may God rest his beautiful Irish soul)) truly say we were a contender and close to being elite. After '94 the team nosedived for another decade plus and we went through several coaches and GMs until Gillis and AV got us to '11. We're now starting the rebuild in earnest and people are already calling for Benning and WD's heads.
Now I'm going to finish my Naked Grape and get some sleep, peace out. - DariusKnight
exactly. it;s la la land those live in that think a draft pick will turn it all around instantly. Just as much as we laugh at oilers fans every time they think theyre winning th e cup following each player they add. I even saw claims of a cup following the kassian acquisitian for crying out loud.
Speaking of them (Im not trying to pick on them theyre just a good example of my points) its exactly why consistant losing is not an option. |
