wont there be a cap recapture penalty for retiring before his contract expires?
- mauryballstein

Ed Snider is magical, he got out of the Pronger disaster, this penalty will disappear some magical way.

Wasn't it the Lightning that signed the back sliding contracts then bought him out?

No, Lightning used compliance buyout. Philly signed him to 5 year front loaded:

6m
6m
4.5m
3m
3m

If he retires after this season I think there is 3m in cap penalties.

EDIT - maybe even more, didn't notice the $8m in signing bonus he has been paid as well...

kings already lacking cap space.. this deal will seriously (frank) them if its a 3 mil hit for the next couple years or however it works

Yeah, no penalty to the Kings at all as his salary and cap hit are equal right now and cap hit is actually higher then salary going forward.

Sarcasm , we don't have a bevy , we have a smidgen .

Piddling? Scant? I think we have two maybe three: Burrows, Hammer and Vrbata. Burrows started the year off well enough and I could see a team like the Rangers or maybe even the Isles taking a shot but I can't see much return 4th? As vantel has speculated, getting rid of the salary might be good enough.

if philly has retained 50% that's 1.5. But as lefty pointed out, his agent says this is it.

Agreed, but you and I and Benning all know the impact of a Matthias or Richardson come playoffs... Zero. He would have been smart to get rid of them for something regardless as he clearly knew they were not resigning

I don't see Burrows as a commodity . He has 5 goals and a year left at 4.5 . We are going to have to bite it. I don't see anyone interested. Not bad enough to waive , not good enough to generate interest.

Vrbta may generate a second for us seeing he is a rental.

Hamhuis, if he waives would probably get a second.

Its hard to gauge value this year from the lack of trades. In past years you could see each of those guys going for 1sts, but the tighter cap and lack of moves makes it harder to determine what the going rate will be this year. Only a few months ago KB3 was worth a second rounder after his worst season to date, these guys should get more but you never really know

You might be right, but a lot of teams don't have pests and dont have exp. (Florida maybe too?). I could see AV wanting Burrows, there is a lot of man-love there.

he can retire but one team or both i have zero idea how it works still looses cap space as a result of the cap recapture. from what guys are saying its the flyers and i guess they dont care as they have some young guys coming in on entry level deals over the next couple years.

It's true, there's not a lot of teams with space, so those few teams have leverage and don't want to take bad contracts. I like Weal out of that LA though, Calder winning playoff MVP in the AHL.

I think hamhuis gets a first, I would prefer a good d prospect drafted a couple years ago and ready to make the jump even if we have to add. Like to the Avs and toss in to get Bigras. Bowey from caps etc.

Only way burrows is moved this year is if we eat half his salary. Cant see anyone wanting him even for free with his cap hit.

Most GM are now seeing the value of drafting and Dev. Hard to pick their pockets anymore.beach year will get harder to get the high end draft picks

they are a mistery, they have a lot of cap taken up by non-active players already.
