Am i the only one that thinks Mcquiad has been horrible anyways?
Really? I don't know man, I think he's probably playing his best hockey since 2011-12. |

That's not saying much. Although, I do miss his bone-crushing hits.

Mcquaid has played like a 4-5 Dman this year. I think he has significantly improved over last year, and probably the year before. He has definitely saved a few games. Also his +/- is 5th best on the team (at +6) and only second to Chara for defensemen. |

Not on LTIR just the regular IR list...
Last thing I saw was he was "week to week" and wearing a sling on his arm, indicating he might be dealing with a shoulder injury... hopefully he's back sooner rather than later! |

I think ty hit the nail on the head, i don't know if it speaks for his game, or the general weakness of our D-core, but he's become a pretty important player back there. i feel he's much less of a liability this year.

I think McQauid is best suited for the 3rd pairing. If he is in the top 4 then the Bruins have problems. Which they do.
But hey McQauid is out so K. Miller will always be in now. |

Chara is (frank)ing done. Told everyone that we should've gotten rid of him a couple years ago. Missed the boat on that, just like we missed the boat on seth jones. WTF is this organization doing? |

Comment seems misguided. Everyone always rags on Chara. I don't see a problem with his overall play, his stats are decent this year and a reason the team is where it is right now and not dead last in the league. Yah the 7 million cap hit sucks, but what are you gonna get for him now? Better off keeping him.
Seth Jones....ummm, we don't have a Ryan Johanssen to trade....

I'm with you on that one brotha... I've been singing the same tune. I don't care what his +/- or stats are... he looks TERRIBLE. And Bergeron should be the captain. It blows my mind every time I watch a broadcast and they talk about how good Chara is... I don't think anyone's actually watched him for the past 2 seasons... |

Eye test is pretty clear on him. He still makes more positive plays than negatives, but #1-2 D-men usually make few if any mistakes during a game. (Like Chara three years ago.)
The writing was on the wall the Hawks Cup finals. It was clear that his stock was going to drop from there and it has.
It's not like those of us saying he was going to have a drop off and we should trade him LIKE IT. We didn't. But sometime history is right, aging players slow down, and get hurt easier.
I've been writing it here for months.
Watch him on the offensive zone blue line, he can't keep the puck in. His reaction speed is slow because of the speed of the league now. He has given up two on ones and breakaways every game for weeks with this play alone.
He can't stick handle with the puck and his passes are off. Hence the turnovers in the D zone.
You skate around him to the outside with speed
AND you hit him in the D zone because he can't stick handle and will cough the puck up
AND you rush him whenever he presses into the D zone for odd mans the other way.
Again.......he still makes more positive plays than negative but I can almost guarantee he will be the cause of odd man rushes and breakaway over the next few games.
He is stilll our most consistent D man.......maybe Krug. Don't expect much from him but we don't notice him screwing up like everyone else on D. |

Pretty much agree with everything. He has his flaws of course, and he isn't the #1 anymore on most teams. That being said his value is in his experience. I think him playing with C. Miller was dynamite. Boston CAN'T run clear cut #1, #2, #3 D-pairings with this roster, and I don't think it is a completely negative thing (considering a week and a half ago they would have been in first place had they not lost Krejci and Marchand (out by a point with 2 games in hand)). They are stuck with Chara, have him train the young guys, lower his minutes and everyone gets a bit more playing time. It helps develop the rookies and eases the pressure on him so he isn't playing mid to upper 20 minute nights. He's still got a hell of a slapper and he is still a presence on the ice. Boston has exceeded nearly everyone's expectations this year, so frankly everyone needs to drink a beer and celebrate that the playoffs are not only a possibility this year, but home ice may be in sights (not that we even want it with this record)

Bingo my friend. Any bruins fan that thinks Chara is still an elite defenseman is delusional and living on fantasy land. Constant turnovers, stupid penalties and lackadaisical effort, yet it seems like he never comes off the ice. He continues to cost this team, yet doesn't get blamed for anything. The time to get rid of him was 2 years ago, instead we sacrifice some really good players to keep our captain, while we have the ultimate captain in Bergy waiting in the wings.
As far as my seth jones comment, this was a chance to replace what was lost in Dougie. Now I don't know if Nashville would have parted with him unless they were getting a #1 centre in return, bet the mere fact that he was moved means that they were willing to trade him. No we don't have a Johansen to move, but there is more than enough we could give up to bring in a player like that. Khokhlachev should be moved, and I think Subban should be moved as well. As long as Rask is here, Subban is never going to start, which means it will be at least 5-6 years before Subban would be a starter here, and you'd be crazy to think he'll be a backup or an AHL goalie for that long. We also have 2 firsts, one of which should be parted with to help upgrade our backend. 3 first round picks last year, there's no need to have multiple ones this year.
Something needs to happen with this team before it gets ugly. I'm sick and tried of inconsistent play with this team |

What do you mean?
If you think I'm being too kind to him then know that I toned down my feelings a lot in writing that because I don't want to get into a poop fight on this board.
If you want me to be honest..........he is a solid 3-4 D-man that shouldn't be on the PP and shouldn't play more than 19-20 minutes a night.
He is STILL our best D man right now...........not that that's saying much.
EDIT: it is also pathetic that all of the Bs media guys acted like anyone that said Chara was in the decline two years ago was a nut job.
Weei, csnne, nesn, etc. they all have this delusional vision of the Bs team and haven't been objective since the 3-0 Philly collapse.
I wish they would all come out and admit that trading the captain two season ago was actually the "smart" move..........but they are not media, they are Bs homers. |

There is a lottery for the first THREE picks now. So if SJ and Boston miss the playoffs, entirely possible, we would have two picks that have a chance to be top THREES.
Subban isn't going to get us much in a trade in my opinion. Seems to be a lot of goalies on the market here and there and they all have better experience than Subban.
For example, Jones was a solid backup for the Kings for a couple years and got us a first...........Subban wouldn't even get us a 2 or 3 right now.
And Koko..........he has underperformed and has NO PLUS traits. Spooner had speed, stick handling, agility, and offensive vision. Watching him those traits stick out even when he was not doing well.
Koko doesn't really do anything that sticks out as a PLUS IMO.
If Connolly a 6th over all bust got Tampa two seconds, I bet we wouldn't even get a 3rd for this kid at this point. May be another Caron, although he was a second rounder.
Connolly at least has size and is supposed to have a shot.
EDIT: I'm terrified that these guys make a SUPER STUPID SILLY move and trade away a couple first for Buff AND THEN we sign him for stupid money.......$7 mil per for 6 or 7 years, similar to the Johnny Rocket contract.
Buff is going to be a huge bust for the team that signs him! |

What do you get in return for Chara though?
Chara is horrendous with the puck but he is not the problem. He is still an intimidating player out there. He absolutely should not be on the pp or 3v3. I dont know why hes out there. Im sure he has to be in Claudes ear looking for PP time.
People crying out that he is not a good captain are ridiculous though. It doesn't matter if he has a C or A. (pretty sure it is in his contract to have the C anyways) Him and Patrice are the leaders. Its not a one man show. Krug also seems to be taking on a leadership role as well.
Overall, they are certainly more fun to watch this year and they can make some noise. Just dont show me Washington in the playoffs please. |
