When you have guys like Larrson and Moulson playing the way they are, it just doesn't help. They have the scoring prowess of a John Scott or Andrew Peters.
That was a real bad game to watch. Can't believe the interference call on O'Reilly with none called on Detroit all game. Would be nice to see that called consistently, there were so many more obvious intentional interference moves by Detroit (Smith in particular stood out), it was ridiculous. Lehner looked good anyways, not too much flopping that I saw compared to last game. Hopefully the roster gets healthy after the ASG and they get back to how they looked earlier in the year.

Larsson proved last year that he can put up some numbers if he plays on a line with better talent. I think is game from here on out will be more like Girgensons though, a shutdown center with a spot on the P.K.
Moulson is just looking more and more like he doesn't have it, he's hit his wall when it comes to NHL level of play. Without a J.T. helping to give him a hand, I think he's going to just keep going down hill. I find Murray offering him that contract for that term still to be his biggest head scratcher so far. Murray should be working overtime to move Moulson by the offseason, or his contract will be an albatross around this organizations neck.

Yea I'll give Larsson some slack because he's young, but Moulson needs to go, if he is only hear to teach guys he is a waste. O'Rielly is such a good role model on how to put in work. I think if you give Larson some quality third liners you seem he get 40pts a year.

agreed
this falls on pretty much every sabre 24 years or older not named legwand, ror, bogo (lately) and lehner
no reason this team can't score and fall apart in the third

Yeah Larrson doesn't bear the whole burden, but he flat out never scores. Like me in high school.

I think Moulson was an effort to take up cap space when we needed to spend money. I would have never guessed he would get this bad. I just figured he'd ease in to the "elder statesman/defensively responsibe" 3rd liner role in his old age.
I want to be angry but really they're playing as many expected. Still figure them for 75-80 pts for the year. Just hope they pile up the wins on national TV.

That's true, it's the term though that was a real head scratcher. Like Murray said, "It's never hard to spent money." So, why did we give Moulson five years when we only needed to over pay him for last year? I think Murray is a good judge of talent, but I think in Moulson's case its fairly obvious that he is nothing more than a player with not a lot of talent but has been lucky enough to play with talent. His NHL staying powers was developed by his willingness to park himself in front of the net and bang home rebounds. He is now past his prime and is not willing to do that any longer. Murray should have seen that his production would have such diminishing returns on such a long contract.

This is exactly what I thought. He doesn't even get close to scoring chances out there. He simply just occupies time out there.
it's actually ideal being bad but having the rookies/youngsters play well. Imagine being 10th only because Moulson and Gionta had career high shooting percentages. I'd probably have to become a leafs fan

They've also had their share of injuries. We forget Bogo, Lehner, Kane and Ennis have had significant injuries. Now Reinhart and Nick D too. Guys don't exactly get back to 100% right away and the line chemistry has been all screwed up.
