At this point I'm just worried about EK's mental state and how much losing and poor coaching he is willing to put up with. Every team wants to play for a winner and we haven't looked like that - and it's not on the horizon.

Bryan Murray has always talked his way in and out of everything - but he's got no one to blame now but himself. This team has no heart and simply isn't good enough to between seriously.

Rebuild plan failed

I said it before, one of the top forwards go down and the team will probably struggle. It's apparent with Turris out. Smith/Lazar/Pag just aren't top 6 material to replace guys.

The last two games have been really concerning. They played well out West, but then struggle against their Eastern counterparts.

Good news is we are only 3 points out of the final 2 playoff spots. Bad news is there is 7 teams with us.

Something has got to give. Management needs to make a decision one way or another. Swing some deals to help the team now or plan for next year and beyond.

It's reported that Tampa is seeking Chabot and another legit prospect in a deal for Drouin. Will be interesting to see how that plays out. I assume the other prospect would be Paul/White/or Lindberg.

So who in the east has heart and is good enough to be taken seriously? Take out the Caps and I see the next 12 teams separated by 11 points.

Think we are possibly going to need Chabot more than Drouin especially as the latter seems to have an appalling attitude and it doesn't look like we are going to get defense any other way.

Tampa and the Rangers definitely have it. Basically any team that is willing to take a hit and go into the boards and look for pucks has the heart. Toronto has heart, no talent but they have heart. Put Babcock in Ottawa and we are a playoff team for 82 straight games

Bang on. The Sens seem to have a long way to go, but the rest of the conference is just as big a mess. Anyone can make a run essentially. There are 12 teams capable of making the playoffs or falling out. Will be an interesting few weeks. The last couple of games have looked bleak, but we are still in the thick of it.

I dont think Druin is any kind of solution for the situation we are in.
Also I dont really want him on the team to be honest.
Chabot could also end up being just another Wiercioch or Cowen, but Id rather take my chances with that.
Barring another late season performance like last season, Id be ok with mailing it in this year rather than pulling a TML, finish ninth and pick in the middle.
Would it kill Eugene to sign a decent ufa D man this offseason??

When I first heard Drouin was available, I was all for getting him. Now that I've read a lot of stuff, I'm more on the fence. There are rumours that he just doesn't overly enjoy playing hockey which isn't a good sign (Same thing happened with Daigle). However, rumours are just rumours. He has skill and is only 20. To me it's still quite tempting. Especially if Chabot is the guy Tampa is after and not Ceci. A few teams have backed off Drouin according to Elliot Freidman so that might make the price a bit cheaper. Who knows. It will be interesting how that situation plays out.

I can't see this group bombing to Toronto, Buffalo, Edmonton, Columbus levels, so they may as well give it a shot to make the playoffs. There are a handful of decent D-men that could be UFAs. Personally, I'd try to acquire one before the deadline to have an advanced chance to talk a new deal. I can't see management staying pat one way or another. A move will be made.

What makes you think a move will be made? It's not like they are giving any indication that anything is going to happen. In fact have they said much at all about anything recently?

i wonder if the apparent lack of action from the team is the result of nobody seeming to know what murray is doing..........staying or going.

i've always been a big fan of murray.....a couple of moves aside i've always agreed with and loved what he's done with this team. that being said, i think he needs to walk away now (before the deadline) and let his successor take over to form this team moving forward.

i think it's murray's lack of a decision about his future that is holding this team up from doing something.............or if it's not the only reason, i think it's certainly a key one.

just my opinion

as for drouin............i'd consider trading chabot for him, but i certainly wouldn't add another top prospect. absolutely not worth it in my opinion. even moving chabot for him wouldn't be a "instantly pull the trigger" kind of deal.

I agree. If were going to have a new GM come in soon it will likely be with a new vision so theres no sense waiting until the offseason as it will set back any real change.

I also really don't want to see a promotion from within. Dorion has been god awful at predicting prospects, the last thing we need is someone like that as GM. We'd be regularly burned on trades.

The T6 of this team is too soft.... time to make a hockey trade.... soft for jam.... Hartnell, Simons, or even Foligno come to mind...

Like i've said over the last few weeks. i honestly think this team needs three pieces. a #1C, #2LW and top 4D.

I think those changes could certainly be made. However I think the issue is our GM doesn't care about improving this team and ownership is to busy rolling in money to notice that fans are upset and the culture needs to be changed.

In order to create a winning competitive attitude with the Sens we need a commitment from Ownership to spend the money needed. and we need a GM that can pull off some trades.
