Florida leading Tampa Bay 4-0 after 2?
Maybe they are for real and it wasn't just a bad nite for us. - 67hawks
Just finished watching this game this morning, a helluva game with the Cats taking it 5-2......
Bolts outshot em 40-35 despite being outshot 19-5 in the 2nd when the Panthers scored 4 times to break a scoreless tie after 1 period.
Lou had a shutout going until the 3rd but lost it as TB, with the goalie pulled for 5 minutes, outshot em 22-5 in the 3rd.
Cooper puled the goalie with 10:00 left in the 3rd down 4-0. Played about 5 minutes that way until Campbell got an EN with about 5 minutes left.
Who knows going from here but Tallon has a coach who has is team playing structured and hard for him and Lou looks invigorated. .......Helluva game.

Like Rozsival, Scuderi knows what to do and is not afraid to do it. His 37-year-old body just doesn't let him do it. - DMChi2010
Indeed. As a 7th Dman in the cap world he's a fit. Problem is he's signed through next year.

I just don't like Kreider because of his history of injuring opposing goalies. - Dabearshawks
Kreider is not dirty. He has Saad size and speed, except he's very physical, and attacks the net like a demon and as a result there is contact in/near the crease. .....Interesting thought though. Big power forward with speed and top 6 hands. He's an RFA after this year though and with NY in cap trouble next year, Yandle is a UFA, they will be getting creative.
Doubt they let this kid go though.

As far as trade rumors, I heard one yesterday that caught me so off guard, I will hold off on relating it here, as it contradicts some there things I've heard. But i am digging for more on that.

As a 7th D Scuderi is paid too much to be a fit in the cap world. As a declining talent and being signed for another year makes it even worse.
Last year Timmonin, this year Scuderi -hope Bowman has learned his lesson. |

Big difference actually
With KT he gave up 2-2nd rounders, probably the worst trade he's ever made as GM of the Hawks
With Scuderi, he got rid of Daley, and gained 1.1 mil cap space this and next year.
And however bad people think Scuderi is, he's better than KT.
Would seem he has learned his lesson |

I think that the older, positionally sound (and yes slower guys) are there because Q wants them there and not because Stan is trying to force something. If Q didn't want them he wouldn't play them and he does play them. Also, these guys need to be viewed in the larger scheme of things and not in a vacuum. They are fulfilling a function - solid low risk, low mistake, minute eating ice time - and aren't expected to shut down the other teams' top lines.
EDIT- and what VA beach said - cap space and more flexibility (v Daley) are also a very big part of the Scuds signing. Nicely put VA! |

Worst case, Scuderi gets bought out this summer. Consider that Bowman made the deal in order to clear the cap space to recall Gustafsson, as well as to honor Daley's trade request. I doubt Bowman had the leverage to get a real return on Daley. |

8.5M AAV? Seems like there's a ways to go there. Well under Kane/Toews and Kopitar. - Marlowe
The maximum player salary is at 20% (14.3 million) of team salary cap during this CBA. I don't think any player is at that.
If he goes UFA (the bolts will not let him go for nothing) he could be signed for 7 years ; 68.5 over 7 = 9.7 mil per.
It looks like the bolts are trying to buy down Stamkos because of future cap problems. They got alot of guys coming do for 2nd and 3rd contracts.
We shall see how much Stankos loves TB to take that type of market discount. I know this will all but he aint signing that... of $$$ will replace of Tampa.
it is curious that stevie and the bolts ownership has allowed this go this far. |

Michael Leighton and the Ice Hogs shut out the Iowa Wild last night 1-0. Very tight game, obviously, and McNeill got the game winner with just under 5 minutes to play in the 3rd on an assist from Dano. McNeill is on a point scoring streak, he has been playing center and I wouldn't be surprised if he gets a look see soon.
Ice Hogs were getting handily outshot after 2 periods probably to the tune of 2 to 1 but turned it on in the 3rd and carried the play. One sided officiating, Ice Hogs killed off 5 or 6 minors and Iowa was only called for one. Hartman was stopped on a penalty shot.
McNeill with a scrap too, he shed his helmet and decked a guy with an uppercut, there were a couple of other scrums too. Ryan Haggerty did not play last night, not sure why, and goaltender Mac Carruth was called up from Indy to replace the injured Mark Visentin, not sure how severe his injury might be but he went down awkwardly in the 1st period Friday night.
FU Wall I know you're reading and pass it along to Flab Bamturd.
Needless to say the defensemen played pretty well. Svedberg, Pokka, Cam Schilling, Kirill Gotovets, Nolan Valleau, and Dennis Robertson are the top 6 down there.
Rockford is now off until Wed. night for the first of their final two games of this long homestand. Friday and Saturday night's games will be on local TV in Chicagoland vs. the Wolves. We get to listen to Billy Gardner on color, ask him what time it is and he'll tell you how to build a clock #BrevityAForeignConceptToBilly |

Too bad Daley didn't work here- he just turned out to be yet another guy spun at his lowest value. Scuderi and Bickell represent $6.25M in dead cap for next year. My guess is one will be bought out, not both, but what do I know.
Scuderi could have marginal utility next year as a depth player. Bickell would be the logical choice for a buyout as he's proven to be untradeable and $1M in dead cap next year is much better that the $3M+ he represents this year.

If scuderi is gone and sekac doesn't resign the the net gain for the sharp trade is no players and about 8- 9 mil in cap savings over the 2 years...
gotta luv the beauty of the cap....well run organizations who develop players and draft get penalized year after year...yes sir socialism and the nhl..
if the cap was not hard or had other contract out clauses...the hawks could be looking at their 5 or 6 cup in 7 years....

some thoughts on team winning streaks...
1. Panthers won 12 in a row and then went 0-3-1 before beating the hawks.
2. Hawks won 12 in a row and have looked tired losing 2 straight
3. Bolts were on 7 game streak and got whipped after a very good emotional game of outplaying the hawks.
4. The hawks afer their big streak to start the 2013 season were basically a few games above .500 the remainder of the season.
Streaks take their toll emotionally and physically in the NHL...once they end or a team wins a huge game vs a tough oppnent to keep a streak going...that huge rush to keep it going begins to subside and leak away |

Outside the box thoughts-- a few ex Hawks executives are struggling now in their GM tenure-- Specifically Bergevin in Montreal and Chevy in Winnipeg-- then consider the challenges Yzerman is having in Tampa and his 'special' relationship with Scotty-- It would seem the Hawks might be in dialogue with former colleagues-- They are all under the microscope and the lights are on--
No one is going to do the Hawks any 'favors' but Chevy certainly benefited when the Hawks had to dump salary / players after the Hawks Cup wins-- and gave up next to nothing for a few 'core' players to launch the Jets
They are all struggling to win / negotiate contracts for star players and manage the cap-- Meanwhile the Hawks model is working with retooling around the core and plugging in less expensive talent--
I don't think Drouin helps the Hawks now-- I think either Ladd or Byfuglien DO help now as rentals-- Bergevin needs something to go his way to stop the Habs free fall-- - jb3333
Good angle.

Gotta luv the hypocrisy of the capitalist owners: socialism on the buy side, unbridled free enterprise on the sell (including extorting public money's to subsidize private businesses).
