Peter Tessier: Roster $$ Allocation- Jets doing it wrong? Taking a look at where the Jets are spending money as compared to others in the league. Is this the right way of paying for a roster?

If you spend to the CAP, you have enough money to resign both Ladd and Buff, if you want to. And if you move Buff up to forward, the position where he's had his greatest success, you'd get closer to balancing your F/D spending more similar to the top teams.

I don't understand what the big push to sign Byfuglien and Ladd is. I hear on the radio that we have no chance to make the playoffs with Byfuglien and Ladd, but we also have no chance to make the playoffs with them in the line-up.

Maybe I am missing something!!!!

Kevin Cheveldayoff, the acting Jets GM, has some decisions to make and we're not talking about the two big ones with Andrew Ladd and Dustin Byfuglien. He has ten players on his roster who will be free agents in some capacity next year, 4 RFAs and 5 UFAs.

Unlike most teams in the league we do not have a STAR forward or a STAR defenceman, so there isn't either with a huge salary hit. One or two big contracts skew the dollar stats.

Maybe they aren't considered star players because of the market they play for. Byfuglien and Wheeler are very good players.

And that goes to the point of who you spend that money on and when is the time to do it.

Can an NHL team in this era compete with an internal cap?

They are both good, and Wheeler keeps improving. No doubt that in a city like Toronto, both would be considered to be Superstars. I would suggest that both are in the Top 50 players in the league, but not in the Top 25.

watched the Michigan game and wow, Connor's and Compher have great chemistry together. Is he still in Buffalo's system or was he part of the O'Riely trade?

We really don't need 2 dmen in the pressbox when the Moose are in the same city.

I like watching the Jets, the games are entertaining and Wheeler is a beast. I have no idea what the internal cap is but this team isn't far off a playoff spot.

Enstrom is your anchor contract. If you can ship him and a pick to a team that's rebuilding and take back an expiring contract then you have the money for Ladd and Buff.
