Whatever trade they do, they can't be desperate making it, even if its sitting on it until the start of next year, can't give away guy like Nuge unless true value is coming back.

I think the summer will be very interesting trade wise for the Oilers

Good call! Your D is solid!

The drop off from the Top 4 this year is pretty significant, if Laine, Puljujärvi, Tkachuk are there, you take them.

I think the best Dman in the draft is Juolevi and he would be around 10. If they don't take a forward, try to trade down targeting him

Calgary is in the running for Matthews... and to think that fat, drunk, irish bastard was talking smack about knowing "how to build a team the truculent way"

I would do it if I knew Shattenkirk was willing to sign an extension.

What if we went something like this.....

Hall / Draisaitl / RNH
Pouliot / McDavid / Eberle
???? / ???? / ????
Kassian / Letestu / Hendricks

Sekera / Hamonic (acquired using Klefbom)
Nurse / Vatanen (acquired using Yakupov)
Davidson / Gryba or Fayne

Reinhart spends time in the AHL until ready. Rebuild the 3rd line with defensively responsible forwards.

- prismo

The D would be far superior to what we're icing right now.

Yeah I think Chiarelli would have to know he could keep him long term and I'm not sure Shatty would be up for it. The Blues could really use one of your skilled forwards though.

I would do Eberle or Yak for Shattenkirk without the extension in place, but not Nuge.

Yeah Eberle is probably more realistic especially with the Nuge sidelined for another month or more.

Lehtera's more suited as a third line center in my opinion. He might be a bit overpaid in that role when his new deal kicks in but not terribly.

I'd say Backes is pretty much done at center, they wanted to move him to the wing before the season but had to keep him in the middle out of necessity. He could likely walk this summer as well.

Washington would be retarded to make that deal with us. Carlson is a true #1 stud dman on a great contract.
- Ihatebrianburke

I figured.
If that is the case then, Klefbom + Eberle for Johansson and Carlson?
Johansson will greatly help with center depth and Carlson is, like you said, a really great defender.

Would you bite that bullet?

On another side note, someone mentioned vatenen earlier.

Yak + 1st for Vatenen?

Sekera-Carlson
Nurse-Vatenen
Davidson-Gryba

Not bad, not bad at all.

Yes but you cant keep them all. You guys are probably going to have to let go Ebs and Nuge if you want to keep Drais, Hall, McD in the future.
- Danformo

Not only that but the core needs change. A bit of addition is needed, but so as (frank) is a bit of subtraction.

I lm just sick of inaction. The team is bad; everyone can see that. Now do something about it! Its been evident since game 15 that a change was needed. It didnt have to be huge but a step towards improvement would at least give us hope. Instead we get this tired "evaluation period" where they want to see the roster completely healthy (as if that almost ever is the case). The way the team played when injuries shouldve been a red flag early on.
- MaximumBone

Look, the team will be sellers at the deadline and very active with trades at the draft when the deals are better. Free Agency will be fun as well. The way I see it, wholesale changes are needed. I have my preferences .

Pouliot McDavid Eberle
Hall Draisaitl ???2RW???
Kassian ???3C??? Korpokopski
Hendricks Letestu Pakarainen
Khaira
???1RHD Klefbom
Davidson Sekeras
Gryba. Nurse
Reinhart

Talbot
Brossoit

Out: Nugent-Hopkins, Yak City, Purcell, Lander, Schultz, Nikitin, Ferrence
Nillson, Hunt

In ( the fun Part):
2RW: veteran, big, Physical and can score a bit. Someone in the range of Brouwer, Iginla, Doan, ....poop I would almost consider Dustin Brown if the dollars could be played with. But that's the type of tough to play against scoring goals player if you can see what I'm getting at.
3C: Big, Physical, veteran. money on the dot, can score a bit.winner .Fairly inexpensive ( under 4 million). Who is this guy? Gaustad? Can't score. Stoll? Heard he can't score anymore either, but the Stoll of 2013 would have been perfect.Vermette is done. Bozak ?lol.
1RHD: I'm not throwing out names because it's been done to death but we need an absolute General out there.A guy that can control a game, slow it down if need be and shut down the best in the league and transition the puck the other way quickly and effectively. He also has to be able to skate, hit, intimidate , hurt people QB a PP,
And have a canon for a point shot. Too much to ask?

What does washington gain from that? They get worse on d and a smaller forward that doesn't play defense. Granted klefbom isn't a stiff at all, but Carlson is better.

After all we've been through (not sure what that means) but I finally disagree with you. This team is more than 3 moves from even making the next step.

All players mentioned are way past their time. 30 is the youngest guy. Need those guys when they're 25-29. Guys we would need but can't get..... Simmonds, Laata, Wilson, Roussel, etc. I even consider Andelkader. All these players would make a killer 3rd line. Our 3rd liners don't skate well enough to be effective.

As for not mentioning a name for a 1RHD who can skate, hit, intimidate, hurt people, QB a PP and have a canon...... Big Buff is the only one that fits this description. Too bad he's signing in FLA.

This team needs at minimum 5 changes in my mind
